According to the following article, the helicopter was part of the Colleton Air Rescue Evacuation (C.A.R.E.) Flight program, which is a collaborative air ambulance program between Med-Trans Corporation and Colleton County Fire-Rescue. IMO, a civilian would not have been able to directly call this helicopter in, and it was likely ordered by responding EMTs or those behind the scenes when told there was an apparent head injury caused by a shooting (as typically time is of the essence in those scenarios).

Murdaugh Murders: Helicopter Dispatched To Alex Murdaugh Shooting Before Sheriff’s Office
I can't see the article, paywall. Did the 911 call in the air vac just on the words of AM while in the car heading to the highway? He was not at the scene of the "shooting" but wasn't EMS waiting close by there for LE to make sure it was safe for them to arrive on scene?

I'd read the only local that saw AM before heli took him was a Varnville officer.

Thoughts on this?

“Two documents filed in Hampton County Probate Court in late June show a $1.7 million settlement was approved for individuals whose circumstances match those of Mallory Beach’s parents.

Nowhere in the documents are specific people — the aggrieved, the defendants, even the attorneys who filed the settlement — identified. Everyone involved is described as Jane or John Doe — except the probate judge who signed the order.

But the scant details in the settlement are the same as the circumstances of Beach’s death: the same date of the accident, the same law firm representing the victims, and the same descriptions of the victim’s family. Filed on June 28, the order approving the death settlement states that a female was involved in an accident that resulted in her death on Feb. 24, 2019.

That day, a 17-foot boat allegedly driven by Paul Murdaugh crashed, killing Beach.

The settlement filings were in Hampton County Probate Court, the same county where Beach’s family is suing the Murdaughs in civil court. That civil lawsuit — filed against the Parker’s gas station, Alex Murdaugh and his son, Buster Murdaugh — is still pending.

The law firm representing the Beach family in that case, Gooding & Gooding P.A., is listed as receiving attorney fees and costs in the death settlement documents.

In the settlement documents, Jane Doe filed the petition as mother and personal representative of daughter Jane Roe’s estate. In the Hampton civil lawsuit, Renee Beach, Mallory Beach’s mother, filed the lawsuit as personal representative of her daughter’s estate.

Mark Tinsley, Renee Beach’s lawyer with the firm Gooding & Gooding, said he could not comment on anything his clients did or didn’t do.

He would not say whether the June settlement and the wrongful death lawsuit both stem from the death of Mallory Beach, or whether the unnamed defendants in the settlement are the same defendants who were dropped from the original lawsuit filed by Renee Beach.

“Any settlement in the pending action of the Beach case would have to go through Judge (Daniel) Hall” (the judge overseeing the wrongful death suit), he said. “Anything else that’s happened would be something separate.”

The anonymous wrongful death and survival action settlement was paid from the insurance providers of six anonymous people or parties. Those parties are never identified.

But six parties — Luther’s Rare & Well Done, Kristy Wood, James Wood, Randolph Murdaugh III, Randolph Murdaugh III as Trustee of the Murdaugh Residence Trust 2, and the Murdaugh Residence Trust 2 — were removed as defendants in Renee Beach’s wrongful death suit in 2019."

Hampton County Probate Judge Sheila Odom’s order approving the anonymous settlement, signed June 28, came after the anonymous petitioner and the decedent’s father testified at a hearing. The date of that hearing is not included in the order."

It Luther's a chain? Maybe they settled?

It Luther's a chain? Maybe they settled?

Yes. It appears that in June,
Luther’s restaurant, the couple that hosted the party (the Wood family), a couple of the Murdaugh trusts, the departed R Murdaugh and Richard Murdaugh III (Buster) all settled with the Beaches for over a million dollars.
See the last paragraph of the article—those that were dismissed are the ones that paid out. Parker’s did not settle.

The order doesn’t dismiss the civil claim though, which is why I think Buster remains a defendant in the remaining pending action along with AM and Parker’s.

This was interesting to me because prior to this article, no one was aware the Beaches had settled. They have received over 1 million dollars and the suit against Parker’s is ongoing. For those of you not in the South, Parker’s has big money (like Walmart money).

While the article does not say specifically who called the helicopter, the article does say that it was “dispatched at 1:43 p.m. Saturday — approximately 9 minutes after Alex Murdaugh called 911. This means that the helicopter was dispatched approximately 12 minutes before the Hampton County Sheriff’s Office was dispatched at 1:55 p.m. Saturday.” A witness also told the reporter that the helicopter landed at around 2:15 p.m.
That make me think that it was dispatched sight unseen.

I'm not understanding this stuff...

"Randolph Murdaugh III, Randolph Murdaugh III as Trustee of the Murdaugh Residence Trust 2, and the Murdaugh Residence Trust 2"

Randolph Murdaugh III is Alex’s brother Randy. He’s the executor of their father’s estate and trustee of their properties.

Freeze Alex Murdaugh’s assets and track all his spending, SC lawyers say in motions

https://www.thestate.com/news/local/crime/article255199646.html

The motion, made in three separate Hampton County lawsuits that name Murdaugh as a defendant, also seek to have a judge appoint a receiver — or financial overseer — who would oversee Murdaugh’s assets and track his previous spending, the lawyers said.

The lawyers also seek an immediate injunction to stop Murdaugh and Buster from spending any of Murdaugh’s money or selling any property. They also seek to have any ill-gotten gains by Murdaugh clawed back from people or companies he has spent stolen money on.

Snip
Bland’s and Richter’s lawsuit, filed in September, alleges Murdaugh stole $2.7 million from the legitimate heirs of Gloria Satterfield, the Murdaughs’ longtime housekeeper, who died of fatal injuries received in a 2018 fall at the family home.

Tinsley represents Renee Beach, the mother of Mallory Beach, a 19-year-old woman who died in a 2019 nighttime boat crash in a watercraft allegedly piloted by Paul Murdaugh, Murdaugh’s late son. Renee Beach’s lawsuit names Murdaugh and Buster as defendants, as well as others.

The other attorney is Joe McCulloch, of Columbia, who represents Connor Cook, who was injured in the same boat crash that killed Mallory. The Cook lawsuit also seeks damages from the Murdaughs.

They include income generated by his “partnership interest in the law firm Peters, Murdaugh, Parker, Eltzroth & Detrick; his interest in a 1,700-acre Moselle tract and other properties in Hampton and Colleton counties; assets inherited from his late father, Randolph Murdaugh III, who died on June 10; inherited assets from his late wife, Maggie, and son, Paul, both of whom died on June 7; and an interest in the Randolph Murdaugh, III Trust dated June 23, 2020.”

On Sept. 16, Murdaugh gave a sweeping power of attorney to his surviving son Buster that “provides a mechanism for Buster Murdaugh to transfer, sell or otherwise handle Alex Murdaugh’s assets in a manner that diverts the assets from the Plaintiffs,” the motions said.

Then, on Sept. 23, Buster acted as his father’s agent and satisfied a $970,354 mortgage on a 42-acre tract in Colleton and Hampton counties. On Oct. 1, Murdaugh’s ownership in Green Swamp Club, a a 7,000-acre hunting club on the Savannah River in Jasper County, was sold for an undisclosed sum.

Both are currently trying to sell a 31-foot, twin-outboard boat for $115,000.

Yeah but the image of the satterfield family (link in article) with backs to camera being described as, having checked shirts and mullets is far from true.

The one with mullet? Is a woman and saying checked shirts are worn by ppl with less means is not true.

...

But alongside the wealth is deep poverty. In Hampton itself, formalwear stores sit close to thrift stores. In court, the Satterfield family came in check shirts and mullets, while Murdaugh attorney Dick Harpootlian sported a grey pinstripe suit.

Murder, missing money and cover-up claims: South Carolina family mystery grips America

Because Buster gave Paul his ID to buy alcohol underage. And Grandaddy Murdaugh owned the properties through a trust. Randy was made trustee upon his death.
I know why the son "Buster" was named but not AM's brother RM. Wasn't the B lawsuit filed well before the murders and the grandfather's death? So how was AM's brother RM even involved?

Relative Suzy lost me when she said, "I know in my gut..." PM and AM were still alive.

Suzy Murdaugh, a relative on her father’s side, said she could go to her wealthier relations for help. “They were powerful. They own the country. If you went to court, you won. Didn’t matter what it was. Don’t think Alex, his father Buster, or his grand-father ever lost a case. He told the judge what to do.”

That side of the family owned land across the county and considered themselves “on a higher level”.

“I wouldn’t say Alex looked down on people, but he thought he was better than them,” she said.

But Suzy Murdaugh also said she didn’t believe he had drug addiction. “Could have been, I guess, but Hampton is a drug county. But he was [a] full-blown alcoholic, yes. All Murdaughs are alcoholic. Three generations back they ran moonshine. So we come from a long line of alcoholics.”

Murder, missing money and cover-up claims: South Carolina family mystery grips America

Paul was a criminology major at the University of South Carolina, his parents’ alma mater. He frequently came home on weekends to see Morgan Doughty, his on-and-off girlfriend, and to hang out with a group of friends, according to depositions.

For months, Beach family lawyer Mark Tinsley pressured Alex Murdaugh to turn over his financial statements. Mr. Murdaugh refused, saying in a mandatory mediation that he had no money to go after, according to people familiar with the proceedings.

In September 2019, Philadelphia Indemnity Insurance Co. filed a federal lawsuit against Mr. Murdaugh, a policyholder, saying it wasn’t on the hook for as much as $6 million in the crash because Paul wasn’t covered under Mr. Murdaugh’s policy. Mr. Murdaugh disputed this for more than two years; a judge decided in favor of the insurer earlier this week.

In May 2020, Maggie and Alex Murdaugh sold their 6,800-square-foot house on Holly Street for $375,000, according to real-estate records. In July 2020, Maggie posted on Facebook that she had moved to Edisto Island, where the family had a beach house.

That December, one of Alex Murdaugh’s insurers signed a financial settlement in the wrongful-death case brought by the sons of Ms. Satterfield, his late housekeeper, according to court filings. His insurer was to pay $500,000, with $166,000 of that going to Mr. Fleming, Mr. Murdaugh’s friend and the lawyer representing the Satterfield sons.

After more than two years, the wrongful death suit of Ms. Beach was coming to a head, with a hearing scheduled for June 10. A judge was expected to consider a motion by Mr. Tinsley to compel Alex Murdaugh to turn over his financial statements.

Three days before the hearing, Alex Murdaugh was with his father at the hospital. According to a person close to the family, he came back to Moselle, took a nap and when he awoke, he left to check on his mother, who suffers from dementia. He didn’t see Maggie and Paul before he left, according to the person.

Why was he even named in the MB wrongful death case? Or the father's (PM's grandfather)?

Randy became trustee of the estate after Grandaddy Murdaugh passed away.
They are named as trustees of the Murdaugh residences. These were personal liability claims paid out by home & auto insurers.

From the article:
"WHO PAID THE SETTLEMENT?

The six respondents to Jane Doe’s petition for approval of settlement are listed as: Jane Doe #2, John Doe #1, John Doe #2, John Doe #3, John Doe #4 and John Doe #5.

According to Odom’s order, Jane Doe #2 and John Doe #1 were insured with Heritage Property & Casualty Insurance Co., which provided $500,000 of liability coverage.

Of the available coverage, an arbitrator awarded the petitioner $279,600, according to the order. John Doe #2 had a $1 million liability policy with Hudson Specialty Insurance Co., according to the order. An arbitrator awarded the petitioner $559,200 from the coverage, according to the order."

"Respondent John Doe #3 was insured under a $500,000 liability coverage policy from Auto Owners Insurance Co. The arbitrator awarded $279,600 from the coverage, according to the order.

John Doe #4 and John Doe #5 each had $500,000 liability coverage policies with Great Lakes Insurance SE, according to the order. The arbitrator awarded $279,600 from each.

The total combined settlement from the anonymous respondents — including accrued interest — was $1,700,032.45, the order said.

That settlement was divided into two claims: $850,032.45 to the wrongful death claim and $850,000 to the survival claim.“
