Murder investigation launched following the death of Amber Gibson - Police Scotland

Following further investigation, Police Scotland can confirm that officers are treating the death of 16-year-old Amber Gibson as a murder.

Amber had been reported missing from the Hamilton area on Friday, 26 November, and is known to have left her home in the Hillhouse area around 9.15pm that night. She was last seen in Cadzow Street around 9.55pm, before her body was discovered near to Cadzow Glen around 10.10am on Sunday, 28 November.

Police said she was further spotted on Cadzow Street at 9.55pm. Her body was recovered near Cadzow Glen at 10.10am on Sunday.

Detective Superintendent Raymond Brown of Police Scotland's Major Investigations Team said: 'Our thoughts very much remain with Amber’s loved ones and we will continue to support them through this terrible time."

Yes. In this case, Cadzow Glen appears to be a park in the town of Hamilton. Friends of Cadzow Glen

The death of a 16-year-old girl in Hamilton is being treated as murder, police have confirmed.

Amber Gibson, also known as Niven, was reported missing from Hamilton in South Lanarkshire on Friday.

Police said she was known to have left her home in Hillhouse at about 21:15. She was last seen in Cadzow Street around 21:55.

Her body was later discovered near Cadzow Glen in the town at about 10:10 on Sunday.

Murdered Amber Gibson 'was acting like any other 16-year-old'
A teenage girl found murdered in South Lanarkshire was not doing anything different to any other 16-year-old on the night she went missing, police say.

Police have described her death as "particularly tragic" and urged members of the public to help find the person responsible.

Det Supt Brown said a key part of the investigation was to try and find out if Amber knew her attacker.

He said: "Our focus is to understand Amber's last movements so that we can provide answers for her loved ones.

"If we can fill the information from the time she left her home address up until the period she was found.

"We know Hamilton would have been busy at that time on Friday night.

"Anyone who was in the area - whether they were pedestrians, out shopping, out for the evening or even passing by in their car - if they saw Amber, come forward and provide us with any information of any sightings."

I work in the area Amber was found. The park is smack bang in the town centre so I had a feeling Police would catch the perpetrator quickly, considering the CCTV etc. The Police station is literally a stones throw away also. Absolutely devastating.
