Case History
The Duchesne County Sheriff's Office was serving a drug search warrant on a 620 acre lot owned by a specific individual. During the search the remains were found in an outdoor area. The remains were initially thought to be archaeological Native American, but recent forensic anthropological analysis determined the remains to be a modern Hispanic female who died 2-20 years before 2001.

During the search the remains were found in an outdoor area. The remains were initially thought to be archaeological Native American, but recent forensic anthropological analysis determined the remains to be a modern Hispanic female who died 2-20 years before 2001. A human skull found tied to the top of a wooden fence post was taken to the State Medical Examiner.

Preliminary reports indicate the skull is "very old," perhaps from an old burial ground and is probably that of a young girl

That’s an awfully narrow age range for such a broad PMI.

For younger people, they can look at things like tooth development (wisdom teeth not fully erupted, for instance), tooth wear, and the suture lines between the various skull plates and get a fairly precise age. A little older and all they can tell is "young adult."
