VT VT - Brianna Maitland, 17, Montgomery, 19 March 2004

Apparently the 2 guys house that they raided, whom were both said to have been drug dealers and knew Brianna well as well as supplied her with drugs... they were both from queens New York and moved to VT with the purpose of trafficking cocaine. I found an unidentified female, who resembles Brianna almost to a T and have submitted the info but have yet to get a response. The National Missing and Unidentified Persons System (NamUs)

New to this site, but not to this case. This picture is very close, but the one thing it lacks is the scar through the eyebrow. She had a visible scar through her left eyebrow, which is visible in many of the photos, as very faint and almost nonexistent. Hair however doesn't grow through scar tissue, so I most often notice the lack of hair with that scar. In the unidentified photo you posted, it seems that the hair over the left eye is uninterrupted. Now the unidentified may be wearing makeup, which is something to consider, but it doesn't appear to be there. Otherwise it's a really close. As an aside kudos for the solid scouring effort.

Great first post and welcome to Websleuths!

Brianna was last seen on the evening of March 19, 2004, at her place of employment, The Black Lantern Inn, located in Montgomery, VT. She was seen leaving in her 1985 Oldsmobile 88, which was later located backed into an abandoned building about one mile from the restaurant. It was first believed that Brianna had run away, but later was determined that she may have been a victim of foul play.

There have been multiple leads followed up on throughout the years, but none have been able to locate Brianna. In 2012 the cable channel Investigation Discovery—”Disappeared” show, highlighted her case: "Seventeen-year-old Brianna Maitland found life on her parents’ remote farm boring, so in the fall of 2004, she transferred high schools to be with her friends. But after a short while, Maitland dropped out and couch-surfed with help from friends and boyfriends. With no consistent place [to] sleep each night, it took four days for her family to realize she had gone missing. After numerous searches and an extensive investigation, the Maitlands are left to wonder what really happened to their daughter. Police believe it all points to foul play, while others speculate that the teen was taken. But by whom?"

The Vermont State Police, along with the Maitland family, cannot overemphasize the importance of anyone coming forward with information. The Vermont State Police is offering a reward of up to $5,000.00 for information leading to the resolution of this case and/or information leading to the arrest and conviction of the person(s) responsible.

The Maitland family recently created a new Facebook page here. The family asks that anyone with any information, no matter how minor, contact investigators, or contact the family directly through this Facebook page. Also, a public figure Facebook page has been up and running here for many years.

Who backed up the car into the barn?

I was always under the impression that Brianna, in her attempt to get away accidentally hit reverse instead of drive, got stuck and was kidnapped from her car.

Or was it the person who kidnapped her?
Did he hit reverse instead of the gas petal to drive away causing the car to get stuck into the barn.

Just learned about this case and have some reading to do. Apparently a book about the case was recently published by Gregory Overacker, the private investigator hired by Brianna’s family, with a forward by Bruce Maitland. Posting the title and author-/ if interested you can google it. I don’t know if it’s any good, so this is not an endorsement, just an FYI.

“The Hunt for Brianna Maitland: The Relentless Pursuit of Answers to One of Vermont’s Biggest Mysteries”

$25.00

“This book, written by a private investigator and former bounty hunter who has worked for the Maitland family since 2006, is a detailed dive into the facts surrounding Brianna’s case and the people who have been suspected of involvement in her disappearance.”

Author: Gregory J. Overacker”

Did anyone catch the VSP detective on Burlington talk radio (620AM) yesterday morning?

Unfortunately I was commuting and couldn’t listen to the whole show. The host said the detective was on to discuss well-known missing persons cases and they were taking phone calls. I only know of perhaps two Vermont missing persons cases that are as well-known as Brianna’s case so I imagined she would be discussed.

The FBI and Vermont State Police say they will make an announcement Tuesday about the 20-year-old missing persons case of teenager Brianna Maitland.

The announcement will take place at 1 p.m. and will include an update on resources recently added to the case, according to WPTZ. Tuesday marks the 20th anniversary of Brianna's disappearance

The main thing to take away from the presser: The FBI alongside the VSP are offering 40,000$ for information leading to the recovery of Brianna's remains. They specifically said 'the recovery', they didn't mention anything about reward for information leading to an arrest or arrests. I'm not sure what to make of that.

WILLISTON, Vt. (WCAX) - On the 20th anniversary of her disappearance, the FBI announced a reward of up to $40,000 in an effort to help solve the case of Brianna Maitland.
In 2004, Maitland, then 17, disappeared after leaving her job at the Black Lantern Inn in Montgomery. Her car was later found backed into an abandoned building not far from the restaurant.
Police have investigated multiple leads in the years that followed, but never found her. They have said they believe she was a victim of foul play.
Tuesday marked 20 years since Maitland vanished, and Vermont State Police and the FBI held a news briefing to announce the reward in the case as part of an effort to get new tips.

Vt. State Police Col. Matt Birmingham said investigators are still thinking about Maitland and her family, and working diligently to solve the case.
“It is not a cold case; it’s an unsolved case,” Birmingham said.
Police say no tip is too small and they follow up on all information they receive. If you can help investigators, call 1-800-CALL-FBI or the Vermont State Police tip hotline at 1-844-84-VTIPS.
