unless this is a different case. i am sure this woman was identified a long time ago. but it may have been in the news, and not here, that i saw this. From the link:
"The Mono County sheriff’s Office on Friday said it has arrested a man in connection with a two-decades-old killing.
Diego Santiago Hernandez-Antonia, 47 of Mammoth Lakes was booked on a no-bail warrant for the murder of Isabel Sanchez Bernal, 30, of Puebla, Mexico.
The case began in May 2003 when unidentified human remains were found in a shallow grave near Shady Rest Park in Mammoth Lakes. All investigators could determine about her was that the victim was a woman of about 30 to 40 years old and was of indigenous ancestry from southern Mexico.
Recent DNA technology allowed investigators to confirm the body was Sanchez Bernal. The sheriff’s office did not indicate how it determined Hernandez-Antonia was involved in her death."
I'm alerting the mods that she's been identified.
Isabel came from Mexico City to Mammoth Lakes in 2002 and worked as a housekeeper in Mammoth Lakes. Several months later, her boyfriend, Diego Hernandez-Antonia, also arrived in Mammoth Lakes, where they stayed with extended family. In the fall of 2002, Diego and Isabel went for a walk however, only Diego returned. When questioned later by family members, Diego said that Isabel had left the area with someone else and provided a forged note from Isabel telling her extended family not to look for her.We were not able to share our involvement in this case until it was made public, but now that it is public, here is our case page:
