Unidentified White Female
Discovered in Lake Pontchartrain in Slidell, Saint Tammany Parish, Louisiana on June 19, 1986.
Cause of death was homicide.
The victim was in the water for one day prior to discovery.

Vital Statistics

Estimated age: 24-26 years old.
Approximate Height and Weight: 5'2 - 5'4"; 120 lbs.
Distinguishing Characteristics: Light brown / red shoulder-length hair; unknown eyecolor. Freckles. Very petite.
Scars, Marks: She had a round, dime-size scar on her right knee. She also had a 2-inch long scar on her abdomen above her navel. She had a scar on the top of her right wrist and had breast implants. She had a right hip fracture that had healed. There are indications that she had had plastic surgery on her nose. She may have been in an automobile accident before - she seemed to have facial reconstruction and possibly damage to her hips which had healed previous to her demise.
Dentals: No dental work, perfect teeth. All four wisdom teeth extracted.
Clothing: She was not wearing any clothes nor jewelry when she was discovered; however, there was a 1/2-inch wide ring mark on her left ring finger.
Medical Conditions: She was 3 months pregnant.
DNA: Available.

Case History

The victim's nude body was found by fishermen just east of the Interstate 10 twin spans and about 50 yards from the north shore June 19, 1986. A plastic bag was placed over her face, secured with gray duct tape and a 22-pound weight tied to her neck. She had suffered numerous stab wounds to her facial area as well.
Detectives think she might have been married because of markings indicating she had worn a ring on her left hand.

Based on information from meteorologists and marine biologists, detectives concluded the body likely was dumped in the lake between Bayou Lacombe and the Rigolets Pass.

An autopsy revealed the woman died of asphyxia a day or two before the body was discovered.

Investigators could lift only one complete fingerprint from the woman's decomposed hands.

Detectives tried to identify the woman through her silicone breast implants. But the implants did not have serial numbers, and detectives were unable to trace them to the doctor who performed the surgery.
She is believed to not be local to the area.

Just thinking aloud here….could the ring line be from a class ring? I know a lot of people I went to high school with wore their class rings on their left hand before they were married. It may fit if she was on the younger end of the age range. And it would definitely help ID her, a reason for a killer removing it more so than a wedding band. Just MOO.

It could be any kind of ring. I (we?) always assumed the ring was taken off by her killer (most likely) for preventing identification...she might as well thrown it away herself....fed up with the marriage or whatever situation.

Statistically speaking, if she had left a violent marriage (and removed the wedding ring), that would be the most dangerous time for her.

I've always thought the weights suggested she was killed in somebody's basement workout room.

Has Vickie Smock been looked at?

Vickie Annette Smock – The Charley Project

“Smock was last seen in Salt Lake City, Utah on January 1, 1985. Her father dropped her off at a Greyhound bus station with an unknown male companion. She had $50 in cash and planned to travel to Wendover, Nevada to work as a cocktail waitress at the Red Garter Hotel & Casino. She has never been heard from again and there is no record that she ever actually boarded the bus to Nevada.

It's uncharacteristic of Smock to be out of touch with her family; her family stated she was close to her children and kept a regular routine. Her two daughters lived with her ex-husband, but Smock visited them regularly. She was estranged from her second husband in 1985, and he was reportedly jealous, threatening and violent towards her. Smock's second husband is now deceased and was never questioned.”

her height is a little off, listed as 5’7, but circumstances of her disappearance make me wonder. She went missing a year before our Jane doe was found….and If she had made it to Nevada and became a “cocktail waitress” that would be plenty of time to get breast implants and would be the “lifestyle” and funds to do so.

Lost and Found shows Kathleen as, Status Samples submitted - Tests not complete

As to whether their is an update since they were able to last acquire that status do not know since NAMUS changed the ability to view the identifiers.
@Bit of hope @folieadeuxnola - I received confirmation from LSU FACES that Kathleen Beitzel (NamUs #MP40487) is NOT a DNA match to Unidentified Female (NamUs #UP852, LSU 03-35).

She was exhumed a few years ago (can't really remember exactly) and LSU faces lab was doing some work with her case. If I remember right, they can't get a match on her breast implants, but I can't recall why. Here is a couple of links for her.

Implants can always be traced back because of their unique markings but its 86 and omg i cant believe implants of that caliber even existed, i wonder how toxic the materials must've been back then. They're kind of harmful in this day and age but imagine in the 80s..

This week, I started conversations between the St. Tammany Parish Coroner’s Office and the Buffalo New York Police Department, asking their labs to coordinate DNA testing. After 36 years, investigators may finally name the 20-something-year-old girl found tied naked to the bottom of Lake Pontchartrain.

An outdoorsman fly-fishing snagged the woman’s nude body on June 19, 1986, just east of the Interstate 10 twin spans, about fifty yards from the north shore of the lake. An autopsy revealed the woman, who had a plastic bag duct-taped over her head and a 22-pound weight tied to her neck, died of asphyxiation.

Two other findings from the autopsy surprised investigators. First, the victim had breast implants, and second, she was seven to 12 weeks pregnant. These facts bred hope they would find her quickly, but 36 years later, the identity of the Jane Doe investigators dubbed “the Lady in the Lake” remains a mystery.

Tuesday, July 15, 1986, the St. Tammany Parish Sheriff’s Office released a painted illustration of the victim to local television stations and newspapers. The distributed image, a retouched morgue photograph, depicted a young, pretty woman with big eyes and a slightly upturned nose.

An accompanying news release described her as white, 20 years old or younger, 5-foot-7 inches tall, and weighing 100 to 120 pounds. The report said she had shoulder-length auburn hair and small, old scars on her right knee, right wrist, and upper abdomen. A broad tan line on her left ring finger suggested she had worn a wedding ring for an extensive period.

The victim’s body bore no significant wounds, and her blood contained minimal amounts of caffeine and alcohol. The coroner believed she died less than 24-hours before the fisherman found her body.

In the two weeks between that day and her burial in the Potter’s Field area of Greenwood Cemetery in Slidell, sheriff’s detectives investigated over two hundred leads and inquiries, eventually finding them fruitless.

Unsuccessfully, they tried to identify the woman by tracing her breast implants. Markings on the implants revealed their size, two-hundred cubic centimeters, and the manufacturer’s name, Cox-Uphoff International of Costa Mesa, California, but no Louisiana surgeons admitted to using implants from this company.

I think she was either never reported missing or she was and her report was lost and collecting dust in a police department somewhere. I dont think she is a missing person in any database as the breast implants are very distinctive and would have been mentioned in any missing person case.

I don't agree with the breast implants part, because they could have placed after someone went missing.

Yeah but don’t you think someone would recognize such a distinctive feature also are the Breast implants traceable

Indeed. Also, she may not have told people about the implants. Someone in my family didn't tell their closest siblings. I only found out by accident. I am still not supposed to know.

I guess your right but that is still such a distinctive feature surely someone must recognize them or they should be traceable
