Child discovery leads Alabama police to 2 bodies, arrest

To me, the son being beaten to death says he was almost certainly the first one killed

I think he smothered the wife with a pillow and then killed the boy. Mom would have woken up had she heard. I personally think it was all a ruse, for them to move in, just so that he could get to her daughter. He was probably planning to get rid of the two bodies a little at a time, and in various places, since he dismembered them. Only conjecture.

From @shotgun09 DM article linked above

There were other residents in the home when police arrived at the scene on Tuesday, but Abbett did not say whether or not they would be charged too.

I am still waiting to hear more about these other residents. How many, Will they also be charged? I cannot imagine a circumstance where the murders of two people and then subsequent dismemberment into what is being called "small" pieces and the captivity, SA, etc of a 12 year old girl, was hidden somehow from these "other residents"

I am going to go out on a limb and say there is no way they did not know what was happening under the same roof. JMO MOO

looking forward to charges for them!

what is a 'short eyes?
Google is my best friend. ;)

Short eyes

Old school prison slang for a child molester. Term entered the public lexicon in the late 1970s when Miguel Piñero adapted his play Short Eyes into a movie with the same title that became a cult classic and had a popular soundtrack album performed by Curtis Mayfield, including the hit single Do Do Wap Is Strong In Here. The movie is about a pedophile, or "short eyes", who gets tortured and ultimately killed by his fellow inmates after they find out what he's in jail for.

I've also seen:

short-eyes
  • printed pornographic material. Incarcerated convicts/detainees (and perhaps confined patients as well) "read" or examine their pornographic magazines so close to their faces (so as to not reveal their contents) that the inmates appear to be short-sighted. Consequently, the pornographic are termed "short-eyes." The inmates rationalize (like ostriches) that no one passing by will realize what is being avidly absorbed when the material is held so close to the face/eyes. Used in the US state of New York.
  • Short eyes is the term for a Pedofile among Prisons. They are considered the worse of the worse by prisoners and will be killed if given a chance. Prison has it's code and child molesters are not welcome or safe in General Population.

I somehow think he has alcohol problem and these 2 residents were his buddies - other illegal immigrants.

In my opinion, he murdered the woman and the boy in drunken rage (jealousy?) and later tried to get rid of the bodies.

But he kept the 12 year-old girl alive, restrained to her bed. For two weeks!!!

To prevent her to notify Police before he got rid of the bodies?

Why not kill her, like he did her brother and mother, unless he had some use for her? Likely sexually is what I'm thinking. That's what Ariel Castro did. Kidnapped, chained them up, and had his way. I honestly can't think of any other reason to kill the other 2 and not her. There's a reason she was allowed to live since he had to deal with her on a daily basis (food, toilet needs).

What I'm wondering is how long it took her to chew through her restraints. I can't imagine it was done quickly which leads me to believe that he might not been looking in on her often (so there goes my "check in on her daily" theory. lol). I had braces as a kid and they can be painful just being in your mouth. I had wax to put on some of the projection thingies that hold the wires if I got a mouth sore from them rubbing. And that's without me trying to chew through restraints. Her mouth must have been really painful, yet she did it to get free. But I'd think the pain would slow her efforts down some.

She's a real survivor that one. I wish her the absolute best in life and hope she is able to (somewhat) put this behind her. She's already proved to be strong-willed so maybe she can. :)

My opinion:
Maybe she was not around when he was enraged?

Article was posted upthread, just noting DHS and ICE involvement.

Abbett said the 12-year-old girl was Ceja’s daughter, and the slain boy was her son. Pascual-Reyes was not the father of the children.

Abbett said the couple and the children moved to the mobile home at 3547 County Road 34 in rural Dadeville in February.

They had previously lived in another state, but Abbett declined to name that state because Alabama investigators are speaking with officials there about the case.

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE)’s, Homeland Security Investigations (HSI)-Birmingham is assisting state and local police with the investigation.

According to an ICE spokesperson, ICE’s Enforcement and Removal Operations officers lodged an immigration detainer on Pascual-Reyes, following his arrest on Monday.

Pascual-Reyes was arrested by the U.S. Border Patrol on Dec. 14, 2014 and processed as an expedited removal and removed to Mexico on Dec. 23, 2014. He reentered the U.S. at an unknown location and time.

Ceja and the children came to the U.S. from Mexico in 2017. Ceja, at the time of her death, had formal asylum in the U.S. and was awaiting a hearing on the matter.

Abbett said the 12-year-old girl is in the custody of DHR and is doing well.

I’m so worried about the young surviving victim. Will she get lost in the “system”, or will she actually receive the support and resources she needs and deserves? Will she go to a foster family, or be sent back to U.S. relatives (if any others are legally here), or will she be deported? Frankly, I’d be concerned about her now staying with any relative who may have had knowledge of her recent living conditions, and who did nothing.

I wonder if she has family that she knows well in Mexico? Can they be brought here? Like a known Grandmother or Aunt. I say brought here because I think maybe the services hopefully have already been started here? And it might help in her recovery to have a female family member she is familiar and comfortable with around.

Will she even want to stay in the U.S.? After what she’s been through, she may not feel it is safe, and may be wondering if it’s just a terrible country. I am a lifelong citizen, and some days I wonder that myself. :(

True that. I wonder what her family situation is, poor thing. I hope she didn’t witness what happened to her mother and brother. But I guess she did, him being the monster he sounds like.

She chewed through while he was gone and did so with so much effort that she broke her braces.
