Family members did release a heartfelt statement to the press via the FBI although it wasn't stated which parent's family they were. Does anyone know?
Do you have a link for the statement?

MOOs -

I really appreciated the recent FB video from Cornelius PD. The captain was very well-spoken, and she laid out very well what LE is doing on the case and that there is evidence and information that they are not releasing that will be important for eventual prosecution. (Which, yes, I think at this case, everyone knows that's what's going to be coming.) This may end up like the recent Beth Capaldi case, where once the grand jury presents the suspect(s) with what they know, they may realize they're cornered and try to strike a plea bargain in exchange for leading LE to the body. The real question, IMO, is which of the parents will cooperate first, and I think that will depend on the evidence and who it shows to be more culpable. Adding some NC laws below for reference:

For homicide, NC laws state:

"A murder which shall be perpetrated by means of... imprisonment, starving, torture, or by any other kind of willful, deliberate, and premeditated killing, or which shall be committed in the perpetration or attempted perpetration of any arson, rape or a sex offense, robbery, kidnapping, burglary, or other felony committed or attempted with the use of a deadly weapon shall be deemed to be murder in the first degree, a Class A felony, and any person who commits such murder shall be punished with death or imprisonment in the State's prison for life without parole as the court shall determine" NC § 14-17

Simply for disposal of a body, NC laws state:

"Any person who, with the intent to conceal the death of a child, fails to notify a law enforcement authority of the death or secretly buries or otherwise secretly disposes of a dead child's body is guilty of a Class H felony." NC § 14-401.22

"Any person who aids, counsels, or abets any other person in concealing the death of a person is guilty of a Class A1 misdemeanor." NC § 14-401.22

Thanks for all your hard work, super clear timelines (always) & links! It sure makes it a lot easyer when not being able to open every link (i’m in Europe), not overlooking the most important info & having a good post to read back when in doubt of certain info. Thanks @wnk !!

The only not malicious reason I can think of for why the mother didn't report is green card/immigration status.

From what I could find online and in Romanian-language coverage of the case, Diana Cojocari and her daughter were born in Moldova (or in Diana's case, Moldovan SSR), and Diana and her husband met online and got engaged without meeting in person. This was around 2014. If she came with Madalina to the United States for the purpose of marriage, it's likely that Diana obtained a K-1 "fiancé(e)" visa.

A K-1 visa has two noteworthy conditions on it: 1. You must be marrying for the purpose of establishing a life together and NOT for immigration benefit; and 2. You must have met in person at least once in the two years before you apply for the K-1 visa. It is entirely possible that if Diana was afraid of her husband (as it's been stated in the press), it could be because he could have her (and her child) deported for visa fraud.

Even if Diana's family in Moldova is well off, Moldova is far from the best place to be right now because of the War in Ukraine and its history with pro-Russian separatists (i.e: Transnistria.)

Granted, this is speculative. I haven't seen any sources elaborate on the Cojocaris' immigration status, and they may be full citizens by now. Even then, I would think the fear of being sent back to an impoverished country that's bordering a war zone would be very coercive to many.
I guess that might strike fear in the hearts of some. But the authorities could deport me. It’s preferential to being separated from any of my children. I’d rather return to poverty and I life I know (origins) than lose my child and my family support network back home. Even if my family back home doesn’t financially support me, I would be comforted by being near them and the familiar lifestyle.
I’d easily get past any “I told you so’s” so long as my kids and myself are safe.

#MadalinaCojocari search warrant is still not available for public view. Investigators technically do not need to release the warrant to the public if they believe it will hinder their investigation.

NC law is interesting when it comes to search warrants. They become public records once they’ve been served and returned to the court, but there’s no specified time frame regarding WHEN law enforcement must return their warrant back. Also, they can get it sealed by a judge.

@SydneyHeiberger
2h

Right now, there's no indication of a court order sealing the warrant.

Sounds like the forced indoctrination of a cult. Sounds like she fell for violence being “normal or actually good for a person”…. Hook, line and sinker.

The overall impression I got from that video is that it could be a 'teaching' .... and that it is possible that it might be from one of the seven books the pastor of her 'church' has written (all 7 books are displayed on their website). I haven't been able to find any of the content of the books online though.

The 'teaching' seems to say (to me) that we all have violence within us, but we need to channel that intensity into something else that is useful.

It is interesting that she felt the need/desire to speak that on her FB page. I wondered if her husband reviewed her FB page somewhat regularly.

imo

ETA: Having now read the article posted by MsMarple above, it seems that she felt her husband watched over and listened in on everything. (According to DC's sister.)

IMO much of what we’ve heard from Madalina’s mom is vague and doesn’t say much. And the interview with her sister (link upthread) doesn’t clear up anything other than Diana seemed to think she was being followed.

It must be incredibly frustrating for LE to have both parents in custody who won’t come clean. Loving parents, including stepparents, don’t do this IMO.

Reading the interview with MC's aunt makes me wonder if DC was possibly suffering from mental illness, specifically the paranoid type. Maybe DC suffered a break and did the unthinkable. MC seems happy in her pics. She had a pony and toys she loved and trips to the beach. Her smiles don't seem forced. It just doesn't seem like a chronically abusive situation to me, unless the gifts and such were to keep her quiet. I also wonder what the fight was about the night before she went missing.

I wonder if stepdad has a criminal record in another state...I tried looking in Michigan real quick but didnt find anything. I wish I could say there is hope for Madalina...but a burning couch in a suburban neighborhood doesn't bode well. I hope they went over the interior of the house with (proverbial) white gloves.

Come on people, IMO, this child is dead. The stepfather, IMO, either was already sexually abusing her, or began sexually abusing her, maybe she got pregnant, or she said she was going to tell, and he killed her, but, IMO, this child is dead. The stepfather left for Michigan the day after the mother says she last saw the child at 10:00ish p.m. the night before. The mother says she goes to the daughter's bedroom the next day at 11:00ish and the daughter is not in her room! The mother then waits until the stepfather returns from Michigan to ask him if he has seen the child. He says no. And yet, she does not call the police and neither does he. She might have a language issue, but he certainly does not. The only reason the police are ever notified is because the school wants to know why this child is not in school! I don't know how far it is from their house to where he went in Michigan so I can't say with any specificity as to how long he had to get rid of her body, but it could be anywhere between the two places. And he had 3 additional weeks if he needed to make sure she would never be found. All just IMO!!!
