CA - Multiple Deaths In Mass Shootings At Two Dance Studios in Monterey Park By Gunman Huu Can Tran, Jan 2023

Finally reached family. Thankfully, they decided not to go out last evening. All safe. Praying for the family and friends of the victims and for those who are wounded.

I'm thankful you reached your family.

Prayers going up for All Affected.

An absolutely rotten beginning for the Year of the Rabbit.

JMVHO.

''The shooting occurred on Lunar New Year’s Eve about seven miles east of downtown Los Angeles. L.A. County Sheriff Robert Luna said it was too early to tell whether the festival was connected to the shooting.

A law enforcement source briefed on the matter said the gunman used a high-powered assault rifle at close range. Some witnesses described a white cargo van, which Luna said should be considered “a van of interest.”

An advisory from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department identified the suspect as an adult Asian man, about 5 foot, 10 inches and weighing 150 pounds. An image showed the man in a black leather jacket, beanie and glasses.''

''Police also looking at incident in nearby city

Luna said the shooting at the Star Ballroom Dance Studio in Monterey Park left five women and five men dead and wounded another 10 people.

Then 20 to 30 minutes later, a man with a gun entered the Lai Lai Ballroom in nearby Alhambra.

Luna said it's still unclear whether the events are connected.

The incident in Alhambra "may be related," Luna said. "We're not quite there yet, but it's definitely on our radar screen."

This is heartbreaking.

We celebrated lunar New Year's Eve at our house last night and today would have been a day of visting family and other celebrations. This news is just devasting. Our thoughts and prayers are with the victims and their families, and the entire Monterey Park community. When we lived in LA county for many years, we would do our grocery shopping, bakery, etc. in Monterey Park, it is a great community with wonderful people. What a terrible tragedy at a time of such joy and celebration.

'The sheriff's office released the first photos of the suspect on Sunday, showing a man who stands at about 5'10" and weighs 150 pounds. He was wearing a hat, glass and winter coat in the photos released by authorities. They said they were withholding the suspect's name.'
