Identified! TX - Midland, living Male, 13-17, can't communicate his name, found near Ward & Shandon, 30 Jan 2023 - Cordarius Lashun Pegues

Does anyone know what the living situation would be for someone in a situation like this? Would he be in a group home type situation? Either way, I'm just glad he's off the streets and is able to be warm. I was shocked how cold it is there. I hope he has someone who cares for him and loves him and is looking.

I would imagine a group home or some kind of institutional setting for ID/DD teens. But I really don't know. If he's lucky, there might be a specialised foster home with space for him, but that might come later if they can't track down the family or guardians responsible for him.

Officials in #Midland #Texas says no one has come and identify an unidentified child found at an intersection Sunday afternoon.

On Tuesday, January 31, 2023, at approximately 4:00 p.m., MPD Detectives and Crime Scene Unit collected DNA and fingerprints from the juvenile. During this process, he was asked to write his name. The child wrote the name Cordarius several times.

The juvenile's photo was released to the media in an attempt to locate his guardians or parents; however, this was unsuccessful. The child was released to Child Protective Services.

Detectives have followed up on information received from the public and surrounding agencies but have not been able to identify the juvenile.

Many believe the young boy is #AdjiDesir, who’s been missing since 2009. Adji and the unidentified boy have similarities in their face, and they both are non-verbal.

The investigation is ongoing, officials say.

The time frame is small but this guy looks like him. Just throwing out ideas.

They do indeed resemble each other, but wouldn't they mention he is non-verbal on the poster? Another photo showing Owansa's teeth could clear things up pretty quickly.

Poor kiddo. Glad he's safe. I don't like the judgment that he wasn't getting good care just because of his fingernails. Anyway...

To be fair, I did mention his fingernails could also be long because he doesn't like them being cut, or maybe he likes them longer. It was just that together with the grubby clothes that make him look unkempt -- but, as mentioned, the clothes (and helmet) thing could also be for comfort or because they were his favourite.

I don't mean to indicate that wherever he was before being found he wasn't cared for. There's a lot of gaps without knowing anymore about him where we can only guess.

I was thinking along the lines of the kid possibly being drugged. Maybe that's why he was unable to really communicate. Finally seeing a picture of Adji Desir makes me think it is him that they found but hes been missing for a long time. He wouldnt look the same age right?

There are a lot of people commenting on social media that they believe this to be Adji Desir and that they've contacted his mother to put her in touch with police. AD went missing in 2009 and would likely be a similar age today. I personally do not think that this is AD, as AD definitely had down-slanting palpebral fissures and this person appears to have up-slanting palpebral fissures. Commenters are arguing that "features change with age", however, this specific trait would not. I do not think this difference is just due to camera angle. Adding this information here in case any other readers had similarly concluded that this is AD in an effort to encourage them to continue looking for other possibilities rather than believing that the case has been solved.
If you look at a side by side of the pics of AD and this boy their right eyebrow seems to have a slight arch and the left does not. They are very similar!!

On January 29, 2023, the Midland Police Department announced they needed help from the public in locating the parents or guardians of an unidentified boy.

The young man was found, alone, near Ward and Shandon Avenue in Midland, Texas. He is non-verbal and unable to communicate where he lives. The young man is estimated to be between the age of 13-17 years old.

When asked his name, he writes the name "Cordarius." No one has come forward to claim the boy or identify him.

When his picture hit social media, users immediately connected him to a boy who disappeared from Florida on January 10, 2009, named Adji Desir, at the age of 6. Adji is mentally disabled, almost non-verbal, and unable to communicate. When Adji vanished, he understood Haitian and Creole, could speak a few English words and could nod his head to indicate yes or no.

Social media users are comparing photos of the unidentified boy with Adji Desir and feel the resemblance is uncanny. Some think it could not be the same person.

"That's DEFINITELY him," one Facebook post reads.

"No way this is the same person. Eyes, mouth, everything is different," another post says.

The photo and information were enough to make Marie, Adji's mother, contact the Midland Police Department.

"I'm (on the phone) with police department now," she responded to a comment on Facebook on Monday.

Authorities nor Adji Desir's mother have announced if they believe the boy is Adji Desir or if any DNA testing has been done or planned for that reason.

They're going to test, if for no other reason that nobody's going to move on from Adji until they do. People aren't going to keep looking if they assume it's 'solved', and if this boy is somebody other than Adji, it really does need to be cleared up fast. And if he IS Adji, his family have waited long enough. I can't imagine there isn't testing already being done.

Can anyone help find the original source for the images where he is wearing the orange shirt? I am finding some low quality versions of it on Facebook but would like the original to link to a hopefully higher quality version - I checked the DFPS website, their fb page, and their Twitter page but I don't see it on any of them. I am going to share it here regardless since it’s included in a collage from the newsbreak article above, but I want to have a better look at it and a source link to include. I do not think the ear or hairline are consistent with AD.

I spent a lot of time searching for the source of that photo today and the only results I found were a couple of posts on FB. Interesing point about the ear and hairline.

Yeah, I thought yesterday the ears were very different, but that's just very much MOO. The hairline we couldn't see to compare until they took photos without the helmet.
