-KD also said he believes the killer or killers are local and the police are trying to obtain financial information linked to them in 5 foreign countries, some of which do not have a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty agreement with Canada.

I never have even considered the possibility that the killers could be local. I would be shocked if in fact they were.

Has KD what he bases this belief on?

Information that was new to me last week (can anyone add to this?):

-Barry’s phone was found on the floor with the home inspection report and his driving gloves.

-the housekeeper picked up more than one newspaper from the front door. KD previously reported the *one* had been found. They had the Star delivered to them every morning and Barry would routinely be reading in the kitchen by 8:30 am.

-two iPads were found in the master bedroom where Honey slept.

-Barry slept in a different bedroom because of snoring issues. The housekeeper said his bed was made, but not in the way she would usually find it. That is the same thing that was previously reported about Honey’s bed.

-the driveway was heated, but one side of the ramp leading to the underground garage was not working. That is where the furnace repair man noted that he saw ‘old’ frozen footprints.

-Barry *sometimes* used the underground garage where his car was found on December 15th.

-Honey’s wallet was found out in the open in the kitchen on the main floor. It contained $7500 in cash. The Star doesn’t know where Barry’s wallet was found, but it contained $372 dollars, credit & loyalty cards.

-there was more detail on the Star diagram of both victims, and Honey’s footwear appear to be slip on shoes similar to slippers or sandals. This is an important detail as there were drag marks in the pool area and the theory is that she had been attacked and possibly killed in another location and dragged there, but it’s surprising the shoes stayed on or were placed back in her feet if that’s true. Barry seemed to have regular dress shoes on, based on the illustration.

-Star sources say the cash and portable valuables left at the scene contributed to LE’s m/s theory and why the police tried to calm neighbours’ fears that this was a robbery gone wrong. There had been many break-ins in the neighborhood prior to the murders.

-the CBC and the Star both have podcasts on the case with February start dates. As KW previously stated, a documentary based on KD’s work will be released this year.

-KD said in an interview that he believes the ‘Night Walker’ suspect may have been a lookout.

-KD also said he believes the killer or killers are local and the police are trying to obtain financial information linked to them in 5 foreign countries, some of which do not have a Mutual Legal Assistance Treaty agreement with Canada.

I’m stumped with the last one. Any theories? I know KD previously reported about the foreign countries but he has now added the details about what they may be looking into. The Shermans had close ties to Israel and the US, but KD indirectly said the US is not one of the countries (he described all five as being ‘overseas’).

(My only guess is that it’s Barry’s money or valuables, but it’s listed under someone else’s name and they’re linked to the crime.)

The Star previously reported that at the time of his death, Barry had $1 billion invested in a Bahamas bank. I’d think based on that there were similar investments in other countries.

Nice summary of what I also found to be many new details.

I want to add that we learned BS had turned down 2 low ball offers on the home already, it had not been on the market for that long. IMO at minimum BS was not selling it as an expected tear down, he was bringing home inspection reports to show it was a home in good condition.

Another was that the real estate tour had done the upper floor and main floor prior to seeing the basement. The housekeeper mentioned how she saw the beds, there was no mention of any holes in the walls like the urban photographer that broke in said he saw. All of the "things" all over the place IMO was done by investigators and may be 2 months later by family (but family had already decided that they were razzing the home before they had any access to it or its contents). When he was in the pool room area and he heard the garage door opening makes me think he was not the only person/trespasser rummaging through this home.

Also that the lights were on inside the pool itself with the pool cover on, allowing glowing light to seep through the edges. IMO this could be for 2 reasons, 1 to have low light to set up the staging - but why leave it on, or 2, part of the staging, creating an ambiance of eeriness in the room?

With regards to the 5 foreign country enquires, I better interpret that the money trail they are now tracking is not HS or BS, it is the suspect's, they have names and person(s) of interest, not just the NW in their view.

Thoughts that come to my mind now, HS uncharacteristically missed that Tuesday evening meeting and did not tell anyone she could not make it she just no showed and when asked stated she was dealing with something personal.

Around the same time BS is looking for ways to pay off a large chunk of money for Apotex loss of court case, again at this time BS is working with HS to design a 30 mil home, property has been bought to build, it is building funds he needs the 30 mil for, IMO he would look through all of his wealth, investments a little closer to find where he can borrow from Peter to pay Paul so to speak. Could someone within the Sherman foundations/companies have been siphoning off money to off shore accounts and BS found out? HS already eluded a personal situation was happening (to me that is family or close friend) and it started on Tuesday. This was the week BS&HS were to visit with their daughter and husband and the visit got moved to later in the week without much reasons shared in the texts. On the Wed night, it is said that at the end of the new home builder/architect meeting HS asked BS to be home early, again makes me think they had plans, were they meeting someone at their home or had something to discuss privately themselves.

The NW being a lookout never came to my mind, I still wonder about the NW, if he was a lookout and a decoy why walk all that way, zig zagging through the neighborhood and go back toward the Sherman home they had before Colony Rd. The last reported video sighting of the NW was said to be close to that old home.

Lastly what I found interesting was that the Jewish community did not welcome KD's attention and was asked that he let them rest, that Jewish faith does not speak ill of the deceased, it is sinful to do so.

Looks like LE is trying to follow the money. Did someone make a payment in some foreign country and had it go through several different countries just to hide the final payment in Canada locally? Is "Follow the Money" a dig at JS by JK?

This is from an older interview so I don’t know if his reasoning has changed:

“Q: You write it would have to be someone familiar with the house, that it was personal, not professional.

A: I’ve spoken to people over the years about different types of homicide. And strangulation, that’s a very close, intimate thing. That’s different than hiring a hit man.”

My interpretation of what he’s saying is that the actual killer may have been known to the Shermans.

I’ll try to find the exact quote from him where he mentioned that he doesn’t think they were a foreign hit man or men.

I have difficulty understanding that if indeed multiple murderers/intruders escorted Barry down to the pool area, wrapped a belt around his neck, tied his wrists together and hung him without a struggle?!
We know there wasn’t defensive wounds, lacerations, bruises on Barry as a result of any resistance.
Why would he simply cooperate and willingly allow himself to be hung like a stuffed pig?!?!
At one point, about six years before he died, Barry told some of his friends that he was considering leaving Honey. (Donovan, Kevin. The Billionaire Murders (p. 218). Penguin Canada.)

Too late to edit my post, but this is the quote from KD and hit men theory:

“08:56
Donovan:
Well I mean, one hopes it, that it will be solved. This is not a case where there is anything forensically at the scene, as it's not one of these DNA cases where they're gonna discover something, as far as I know. What the police have said most recently, is that they are seeking information from five countries, they won't say which countries they are, two of them are in a group of countries that Canada has a treaty with, to get information in a criminal case, three are not. They're pursuing a theory and I don't think they're looking for an international hitman, I think they're looking for perhaps some benefit that was paid to somebody domestically, in return for the crime - that's where I think they're going on this.”

ETA: KD said ‘domestic’, not ‘local’ as I wrote.

Just wanted to point out the difference between two drawings done at/for(?) the Toronto Star in regard to depicting the 'crimescene' based on viewing the actual 'crimescene' photos. (I put 'crimescene' in single quotes, because it is the scene where the bodies were hung after death, but not sure if there may have been other 'crimescenes' where each of the Shermans were actually killed.)

This one is from KD's article dated June 16, 2022, wherein he states:

Based on my description (from photos I viewed, police notes, and interviews with people who saw the bodies that day), Toronto Star artist Susan Kao has prepared an anatomical sketch to show the positioning of the bodies.
crimescene drawing KD article 061622.png

This next one is from KD's article dated Feb. 10, 2023, wherein he states:

The Star has viewed the crime scene photos and this story includes a depiction of the scene by Toronto Star artist Susan Kao.
crimescene drawing KD article 021023.png

Note that it is left to the reader's interpretation as to whether in the February drawing, when KD states, "this story includes", he means the article he linked in that particular sentence (which was a previous article from June wherein the positioning is different), or the article he was publishing that very day, wherein the positioning is more reclined than ever before. Why would the depictions change? Are both of them drawings by Kao? Who is Kao? Did someone get together with her to describe the scene depicted in the photos more accurately over time?

ETA: Sorry for being morbid... but do y'all remember the photos of the bodies being wheeled out of the home by the attendants, and the one was an odd shape? Now look at the most recent 'depiction'... would that explain the odd shape?

The first painting shows HS with NO vest; the second shows a vest, pulled back for immobility (just as described before in articles).
BS is shown both times with NO coat/jacket, pulled back for immobility, although it was always described in articles as being found that way.

Further to my post just above, it is interesting to view the evolution of the description of the bodies as they were found:

Nov. 15, 2020
The bodies were kept upright by belts looped around their necks, holding them in a seated position, reclining backwards, under a low railing.

Feb. 19, 2021
Their bodies were posed in a seated position, legs out front (Barry’s were crossed), reclined slightly backwards at the waist.

June 16, 2022
Seated on the floor
, she is tipped back at the waist to a position that I estimate from the photos is a 20- to 30-degree angle. (Ninety degrees would be seated upright.) The belt that is looped around her neck has its pressure point at the back of her neck.

Barry is situated on the other side of Honey. He is attached to the angled railing a little bit farther back, which explains why, though he is taller than Honey, his feet are roughly one foot from the wall. He, too, is wearing his shoes. His right leg is crossed over the other at the ankle. He is wearing his glasses.

Like Honey, Barry is seated, rear end on the pool deck, his torso tipped back but at a less severe angle than Honey
. His head is slumped forward slightly, with the belt tension under his chin.
Where the belt tension is located is important, sources say, because the later examination by the forensic pathologist hired by the Shermans factored that in to his examination — determining that the location of the belt, plus the fact that there was relatively little weight pulling against the belts, made it highly unlikely that one or both committed suicide.

Feb. 10, 2023
They discovered the Shermans in a reclined position, seated on the pool deck, belts looped around their necks, tied to a low railing above, keeping them from falling backward into the pool.

The first painting shows HS with NO vest; the second shows a vest, pulled back for immobility (just as described before in articles).
BS is shown both times with NO coat/jacket, pulled back for immobility, although it was always described in articles as being found that way.
Yes, you're right. And the thing about the jackets being pulled back for immobility - wouldn't that require sleeves to help with that reported task?

''(TORONTO) February 16, 2023 – Crave announced today its latest original docuseries, BILLIONAIRE MURDERS, a gripping, intimate look at the shocking, unsolved murders of Barry and Honey Sherman. From Entertainment One (eOne), the series is helmed by one of Canada’s leading investigative journalists, Kevin Donovan, host of the Toronto Star podcast The Billionaire Murders: The hunt for the killers of Honey and Barry Sherman and author of The Billionaire Murders: The Mysterious Deaths of Barry and Honey Sherman, as he continues his journey to uncover the truth about this headline-making crime.

The four-part Crave Original series is set to debut later this year. “I’ve been reporting on this case for five years and have uncovered much about Barry and Honey’s last days, and the investigation into their murders. My hope is that this new docuseries takes audiences behind the scenes of the investigation, revealing the inside story of the hunt for the killer,” said Donovan.

About BILLIONAIRE MURDERS On a freezing cold December day in 2017, the bodies of Barry and Honey Sherman are found cruelly and bizarrely posed in the basement of their Toronto mansion. The case immediately becomes headline news, attracting global interest. More than four years later, no suspects have been named, no arrests have been made, and the case remains unsolved.

Told from the perspective of Donovan, considered by many as the preeminent expert on the Sherman case, BILLIONAIRE MURDERS is an intimate look at who the Shermans were, and what may have happened to them. Featuring exclusive access to prominent Canadians who knew Barry and Honey, Donovan’s fellow journalists, and several people who are integral to the investigation, the four-part series delves deep into the case, including its many twists and turns, and conspiracy theories about who could have committed the crime.''

Second installment of KD podcast out this morning. Of interest, KD says the second autopsy indicates that the ligature was a soft material, and the marks on the neck indicate the ligature was “ …. a couple of centimetres wide”. So less than an inch. Sounds to me like perhaps a mans necktie could be possible. If that wide, how was it possibly missed or overlooked in the first autopsy?

Feb 17 2023
''After Honey and Barry Sherman are found hanging, police sources say it is a murder-suicide and cause outrage among Sherman friends who believe otherwise. Veteran investigative reporter Kevin Donovan cold calls sources and gets a promising lead.

This is episode two of “The Billionaire Murders: The hunt for the killers of Honey and Barry Sherman,” a “Suspicion” podcast probing the strange case of the famous Toronto couple who were found strangled in their north Toronto home in 2017. For five years, Donovan has covered the case for the Star, fought court battles to access documents on the police investigation and the Sherman estate, and wrote a book about it.''

This is an important detail as there were drag marks in the pool area and the theory is that she had been attacked and possibly killed in another location and dragged there, but it’s surprising the shoes stayed on or were placed back in her feet if that’s true. more thoughts:

RE: BS phone found with paper work and gloves, this makes me wonder, did BS carry his blackberry/phone in his hands when he entered the home? with paper work and his gloves in his hand and his phone too? no briefcase or bag for his work was mentioned? I would think most people put the phone in a pocket, purse, briefcase as they enter the home?

Why did the killer(s) leave the phones in these places? they took time to stage the bodies but not pick up the paperwork or gloves or phones?

RE: HS wallet, why is it out, where is the purse or did she not carry a purse and only carried a wallet and this would be normal to sit on the kitchen counter?

At what point would all of these little oddities indicate to the service providers in the house that morning that something was not right?

1. newspapers on the doorstep
2. alarm not on
3. HS car there, but no HS or BS as expected (for workouts or baking)
4. wallet on kitchen counter
5. a cell phone with nice cover found on floor of powder room
6. beds not in expected condition for a Friday morning
7. HS sink not wet

Looking at these two pics side by side, the bodies are now not so close to one another in pic 2, BS is at one end HS the other. and why put in foliage and an umbrella in the pic?

I think the foliage and umbrella was part of a mural, imo. You can see it also in the wall close to the entrance.

I’m puzzled by the same things, but my guess about the wallet is that it was her Chanel wallet on chain that she had on in a few photographs. You can fit a few items into it like a phone and makeup, like a small purse.

The wall pictured above however, is on the opposite end than where the bodies were located - however, it's possible (and likely, imo) that there may have been same on each end, just as decorative features, etc. So.... I'm assuming this more recently published drawing is more accurate/real?

I haven't listened yet.. and I'm very behind.. but just wanted to mention from before, while I think of it..... doesn't it say that these things were found when police arrived? If so.......... why would the cleaning lady, and the realtor, have both left anything lying around while the home was being shown? That doesn't make sense at all.

Officers quickly found both Sherman wallets (sources say Honey’s, containing $7,500, was in the kitchen near where she entered the home) and spotted the cash. They also noticed two iPads in the Shermans’ bedroom, Honey’s iPhone in a powder room she never used, and Barry’s BlackBerry on the basement floor near where he entered the house from the underground garage
Large amount of cash found in Honey and Barry Sherman’s wallets ruled out a break-in
