  • Police investigating bust-up at caravan park where group in Cardiff crash were
  • Detectives are looking for a sixth man who is believed to have been a passenger

Police have launched a probe into an 'altercation' at a caravan park which is said to have happened just hours before the horror car crash in Cardiff that left three dead and two seriously injured.

The details of the bust-up are not yet clear but it reportedly happened at Trecco Bay caravan park in Porthcawl, which is where the group had travelled 40 miles to after exiting a nightclub in Newport, south Wales, last Friday night.

Detectives are now hunting for a sixth passenger - an unnamed man - who is understood to have been dropped off at his home in Cardiff after the group left the caravan park.

Eve Smith and her friend Darcy Ross, both 21, died in the collision alongside Rafel Jeanne, 24. And Sophie Russon, 20, and Shane Loughlin, 32, both remain in a critical condition after being left in the wreckage for nearly two days.

[...]

Police have confirmed today that they are investigating reports of the alleged altercation at the caravan park as well as suggestions there was a sixth passenger, the Mirror reports.

A spokesperson for South Wales Police told the paper that they would not make any additional comments while the investigation was ongoing.

It is not yet known why the group went to the caravan park, but it is believed that Mr Loughlin's family own a caravan at the site.

A friend who has helped in the search for the group wrote on social media that there was an 'altercation at the caravan site where the security guards last seen them'.

'Not sure what the altercation was but the security said they all jumped into this car,' the friend added.

Wow.
So there is a person out there, who can offer some insight to the background of a crash where THREE people died, and the police are actually having to LOOK for them?
Is that what passes for 'friendship'?
Despicable, that's what.

He wouldnt known about the crash to be fair but you certainly would think he would have come forward and considering they know he was dropped off you would think they have some sort of idea who he was

He would have known they were all missing - it was all over Social Media. The vehicle and occupants were found in the early hours of Monday. It is now heading towards Thursday.
More than enough time to raise his head above the parapet.
Those men moved in the same social circles.
I have no doubt the police know *exactly* who they are looking for.
Just pretty damned disgusting they should even have to.
IMO

Without a suggestion a crime has been committed, and without knowing they want to talk to him, is there really any obligation on him to approach the police?

Sorry. I mean could another car have been chasing them- causing the crash. Or- when the wreckage was discovered, someone had clearly left the scene.
i think they are saying there was an altercation at the site...they havent indicated that they were followed out of the site though

A moral obligation surely?
Perhaps that is an unknown concept?

I mean, why on Earth would the police want to have a conversation with him? I mean, it's not like he was likely to have been the last person that spent any time with them, and knew what condition they were all in, or who was driving, or what they had been doing before the crash that killed THREE of them .... Goodness - volunteering to offer up that information? Perish the thought!

Maybe the poor wee soul can't get past his fear of the big, bad policeman.

IM (very cynical) O.

Latest statement: Fatal RTC St Mellons, Cardiff: Joint statement from South Wales Police and Gwent Police

#STATEMENT | South Wales Police is continuing to investigate a fatal road traffic collision on the A48 in the St Mellons area of Cardiff.

Emergency services discovered a Volkswagen Tiguan vehicle at 12.15am on Monday 6th March after the police helicopter, police and fire officers were deployed to the scene.

The families of Rafel Jeanne, Darcy Ross and Eve Smith, who died in the collision, continue to be supported by specialist family liaison officers.

Two further people remain in critical condition at the University Hospital of Wales.

Following initial police investigations into the collision, we can confirm that:
- The last confirmed sighting of the five people was at 2am on Saturday 4th March in Pentwyn.
- The collision occurred during the early hours of Saturday 4th March, the exact time to be confirmed by the investigation, including CCTV and ANPR enquiries.
- The first missing person report was made to Gwent Police at 7.34pm on Saturday 4th March.
- Further missing person reports were made to Gwent Police at 7.43pm and 9.32pm on Saturday 4th March.
- A further missing person report was made to South Wales Police at 5.37pm on Sunday 5th March.
- At 11.50pm on Sunday 5th March the police helicopter was requested to search an area of Cardiff which resulted in a vehicle being located in a wooded area off the A48.
- Gwent Police officers on the ground had sight of the car (a Volkswagen Tiguan) at 12:02am on Monday 6th March and this culminated in a log being created by South Wales Police at 12:15am.
- At this stage we believe only one vehicle to be involved.

Assistant Chief Constable Jason Davies of South Wales Police said: “Our thoughts continue to be with the families and all those affected by this tragic incident. Specialist officers are carrying out a detailed investigation to piece together what has happened. Family liaison officers are supporting the families involved at what must be a hugely difficult time for them.”

Pure speculation but perhaps the plan was to party at the caravan but all told to leave, by which point the driver, if sober earlier, could have been under the influence. Being miles away from home, the expense of a 7 seater taxi along with inconvenience of vehicle retrieval later could have created an error in judgement.

The investigation aspect, I'm not sure on the law but perhaps something along the lines of Duty of Care of site staff to alerted police or provided a taxi/alternate accommodation???

Sorry, I don't understand what you mean by this?

Only thing that leads me away from it being with security is that they have cordoned off a caravan according to the top picture.
it could potentially be evidence maybe imo if that was the families caravan of what the group were doing whilst in the caravan although I dont know why it would need to remain taped up
