Woodman and a friend ran away from their respective Western Australia homes in March of 1980. They reached Victoria together, with plans to meet again in Queensland after going their separate ways for a brief time.[/FONT][FONT=&amp]Woodman never arrived as scheduled in Queensland and has not been seen since, nor has she made any contact with family or friends.
Her friend arrived in the region safely, but was not able to help investigators with Woodman's case.[/FONT]

Looks like the police suspect Barrie Watts and Velmae Beck, who killed Sian Kingi in 1987, of Sophie's disappearance. However, they were unable to question them about it (source).

I wonder why she and her friend separated in the first place.

Looks like the police suspect Barrie Watts and Velmae Beck, who killed Sian Kingi in 1987, of Sophie's disappearance. However, they were unable to question them about it (source).

I cannot see how the police would suspect Watts and Beck as they only met in 1983 (Tracking the evil union of one of Australia's most sadistic couples). Of course, this does not preclude Watts alone being a suspect.
