A man has been arrested on suspicion of murder after two people were found dead at a house in Huddersfield.
Emergency services were called to Harpe Inge, Dalton, at about 09:55 BST on Monday, and found a man and women with multiple injuries.
They were confirmed dead at the scene, West Yorkshire Police said.
A man in his 30s from Huddersfield is in custody for questioning, the force added.
It said a number of active inquiries remain ongoing.
Det Supt Marc Bowes said earlier the incident had "clearly been an exceptionally serious offence".
"We are conducting extensive inquiries at the scene and at other locations in the Dalton area as we investigate the circumstances of what took place," he said.

Detectives can now formally name the victims of Monday’s murder in Huddersfield.

Officers are continuing to hold a 34-year-old Huddersfield man in custody under arrest on suspicion of the murder of Katie Higton (27) and Steven Harnett (25) from Huddersfield.

The Homicide and Major Enquiry Team is continuing to pursue a wide range of active enquiries into the murder of Katie and Steven at a house on Harpe Inge in Huddersfield overnight between Sunday (May 14) and Monday (May 15).

While formal post mortems are yet to be conducted both victims had received multiple injuries believed to have been inflicted by a bladed weapon.

Specially trained officers have been supporting their families today and would ask their privacy is respected at what is clearly a dreadful time.

Police activity remains ongoing at nearby locations to Harpe Inge as part of enquires connected to the murder and local NPT officers continue to conduct reassurance patrols.

Marcus Osbourne jailed for his second attack on a partner - 2015​

A man who attacked his partner and threatened that she would “end up in a box” if she finished with him has been jailed.
Marcus Osbourne, of Church Street in Paddock, was sentenced to 16 weeks in jail over the assault.
The had only recently been released from prison after a vicious attack on a previous girlfriend which left her with a broken jaw.
He pleaded guilty to assault when he appeared at Kirklees Magistrates’ Court today (Wednesday).
The incident happened at an address in Smithy Lane in Moldgreen on December 2.
During a row Osbourne grabbed Patricia Fill by the hair, dragged her into the kitchen and slammed her face into the wall.
Prosecutor Alex Bozman said: “He said: ‘Do you want me to kill you?’
“This happened a number of times and he made a hole in the kitchen wall.
“He said if she finished with him she’d end up in a box.”
There were two children in the house at the time of the incident, magistrates were told.
Ms Fill said she was scared to end the relationship because of the 27-year-old’s temper.
The court heard that in January 2013 Osbourne was jailed for nearly five years for an offence of causing grievous bodily harm with intent.
Leeds Crown Court heard that Osbourne grabbed his then girlfriend Chloe Jervis by the throat and threw her against a wall, breaking her jaw.
The attack started at the couple’s Newsome home after Osbourne snatched her phone to see who she was texting.
Miss Jervis was gasping for breath after he grabbed her by the throat and then threw her into a wall when she told him that their relationship was over.
She broke her jaw in three places and had to have an operation to have a metal plate inserted.
Osbourne also has a previous conviction for robbery from 2008.
He was released on licence from his four years and 10 months jail term in June.
Following the more recent attack he has been recalled to prison.

Prosecutor Katherine Robertson said the defendant was in a relationship with Chloe Jervis at the time.

She said the attack started when they were in bed at her Dalton home.

Ms Robertson told the court: “They had been drinking at a pub and returned home.

“They went to bed and he asked who she was texting.

“He snatched the phone from her and pushed her backwards.

“By this point they were out of bed and he came towards her and punched her in the face.

West Yorkshire police referred itself to the police watchdog after having had contact with Mr Osbourne and both Katie and Steven in the days leading up to their deaths.

Osbourne was told by Judge Kearl that his trial will take place on November 6 this year.

The defendant is due back in court on July 5. There was no application for bail and Mr Osbourne was remanded back into custody.
