Explosion at Connecticut power plant causes "mass casualties"

Five Killed in Middletown Explosion, Number Missing Unknown
Middlesex Hospital, in Middletown, took in 11 patients. One of them was transported by medical helicopter to Hartford Hospital and another was transferred to Yale New Haven Hospital. Two patients with minor injuries were discharged. The remaining seven patients sustained injuries mainly to the extremities, including broken bones, blunt trauma and abdominal pains. The hospital does not expect to receive any more patients at this time.

Hartford Hospital said they have two patients from the blast.

Plant employees suffered "blast type" injuries, officials said during a news conference on Sunday afternoon. People were thrown 30 to 40 feet, suffering extremity and head injuries.

State wants a no fly zone over the explosion zone!

"One of the issues officials are facing is that several contractors were working at the scene.
“To be able to sort all that out will take some time,” Giuliano said."

The contractors are using their own lists. There is not one centralized list or visitor log. So its taking time to get a hold of every sub contractor to get a list of current employees.

This is so, so sad. I hate it when crap like this happens.

Prayers for the injured and the families who have lost their loved ones.

I pray for all those involved and their families. This will affect people who may seem uninvolved. My husband worked in two separate chemical companies that blew up. I shuttered when I heard of this one. I was lucky, my husband was not harmed (physically) in either explosion. Just hearing that a plant blew up makes me shutter.

I hope he was not there when it happened (((HUG )))

I am not there now...the area I was in yesterday is nestled in hills, so I am assuming why we did not feel effects of the blast or hear it. Saw no smoke either.

No news at all :waitasec:
not even how the victims are doing? or how many :waitasec:

This is some wicked stuff! My husband grew up in Middletown/Portland and called to check on family still in the area when we learned of the explosion.. his brother said his house literally shook. The entire thing must have been so scary. I feel so badly for the lives lost and the ones left behind.
