Police asks help identifying the people in photos taken by murderer

IMO this looks more like Malibu area than Santa Monica. Santa Monica beach seems to slope down more and is shallow further out, so the waves would break different than they do here. This reminds me of the beach by Paradise Cove or even Zuma.
Well Carl I guess you're not in this pic but does the location look familiar to you?

Kind of reminds me of Santa Monica Beach but I've only ever spent four days in LA and that was 30 years after the photo was taken so I'm no expert.

The girl has a scar on her forehead. In one of the pictures there is a shopping bag and a pair of boots. Could it be a fit?

More pictures of Christine would be nice. Does the timeline fit? Can someone help me to rule this one out?

If you look at a closeup of the blond girl's left hand, there is a very distinctive looking "dot"-- possibly a mole on her wrist?

The timeline might present a problem. According to everything I've read, Alcala was working as a camp counselor under the assumed name of John Berger (or Burger) and living in New Hampshire during the time Christine went missing (January, 1971). He was also enrolled at NYU during the years 1968-71, so he could have been back and forth between there and New Hampshire. The details are hard to come by.
By 1971, he was on the FBI Ten Most Wanted List, and was finally arrested in Concord, NH on August 12, 1971 and brought back to Los Angeles to stand trial in the rape and beating of the 8-year old girl in 1968. According to New York authorities, he murdered Cornelia Crilley in Manhattan on June 12, 1971.

I suppose it's possible he could have traveled back to California at some time (perhaps the Christmas vacation?) and been in Hayward on January 18th. This guy did travel a lot through the years, so anything is possible.

I knew Chris Eastin personally, she's not one of the UID's.

Do we know where Alcala was stationed while in the Army?
I see references to the years he was in the Army but I don't think I've seen anything about where he was during those years.

There are some similarities here, especially the eyes. The hair is different, however. She may have grown it longer and straightened it. I don't know...
The girl in Alcala's photo looks older than 15 to me. There are no details available of the circumstances of Luray's disappearance, other than "she may have traveled out of the area with an adult male". Was she a runaway?
Where was Alcala in August, 1964? The timeline I've seen has him in the Army between 1961-64, and then nothing until his graduation from UCLA in 1968.

As I looked through the pictures, this kid's photographs jumped out at me . I tend to think this is a young male. There is a huge resemblance between these two people, though.

She has masculine features in a way, but I am ceratin she is a girl. You can tell that in the photo she is topless (hence why both photos of her are cropped right at the chest line) you can still tell she had breasts....

p.s. - this one really really looks like the picture of Lynn Luray. I wonder if she was a runaway and somehow later on after she ran away met him. To me the this one should be called in. The resemblance is just uncanny.

Has there been any confirmed missing/deceased from the pictures found? I know there was 2 that were confirmed alive/well .

Sorry just haven;t had the time to read through all the posts regarding this ;)

This article specifies that one of the women missing that they have possibly identified in the photos is from Alaska and another from Phoenix.

There are only 2 female cases from Alaska that would fit in anyway:

Here's a little girl from Alaska....

Haven't looked into Phoenix yet.

ETA: Dorothy Mildred Clitheroe was missing from Phoenix. I am totally thinking it HAS to be her!

I think this looks like it could be the Alaskan you identified above as Emerick

dang the small thumbnail. I don't know how to get the pic from ocregister because they DON'T HAVE NUMBERS TO REFERENCE and it's all just the same url. Oh well, you can see by the thumbnail and find yourself sorry

Just to let you know, if anyone ever needed more pics of Chris I can still get some from the high school year book, but, there are already more available at her cold case thread here or by Googling her. The pictures of her online are good, except I'd possibly bump her weight up by 10lbs and she wasn't a platinum blond, more like dark blond. (Also, there's a site (I forget which one) that says she was last seen wearing a scarf, that's accurate, but if you're looking at UID's you should know the scarf was left in the abandoned car, so it wouldn't have been an item found with her.) She's the reason I came here.....and 39 years later....we all still wonder what happened and where is Chris. :(

Here is the overlay mirrored, and aligned on the chin and nose. It doesn't line up that well.

Carl, thanks for that! I gotta go now, but I was wondering, when you do that does it take into consideration the fact the distance the picture is taken? I mean, one is obviously more a close up than the other, do you shrink it to fit the eyes and then overlay? I gotta try this, it's very interesting! Thanks again.

I see the similarities but to me, the distance from the bottom of the lips to tip of chin is much longer for Alcala photo girl than the other girl.
Also, Alcala girl photo has straighter nose, the others is a little crooked.

One thing to look for in some photo's I don't think people look at enough is hairlines. I know hairstyles change, but kinks and cowlicks often stay put.

I see references to the years he was in the Army but I don't think I've seen anything about where he was during those years.

I've been searching for that detail, but no luck so far. The only thing I could find was that he served from 1961-64 as a clerk, apparently had a nervous breakdown, and was discharged in 1964 with a diagnosis of anti-social personality disorder from a military psychiatrist. So I'm assuming he obtained a medical discharge.

The overlay is can be scaled and rotated, so the difference in size and head tilt can easily be adjusted for. In this case, I mirrored, rotated, and shrank the overlay until the nose and chin were aligned. I probably should have aligned eyes and nose, or cheekbones and nose because it would be off if the person's teeth aren't tight together.

In this case, there is a significant difference in the vertical and horizontal spacing of their facial features, so I wouldn't have been able to align the unnamed girl's face to the trace regardless of where the anchor points were set.
