...Carnes Funeral Home for their donation of all funeral services for Jonathan

I think that is just wonderful.

I agree. It is encouraging to read that list of people that put aside their holiday celebration to look for this little boy and for this funeral home to donate the service is truly admirable. Out of all this horror, goodness is still there.

The state of media today may have something to do with the scant coverage in this case. Just a scant decade or so ago, reporters were akin to rockstars, and newspapers were willing to pay good reporters who were willing to expand their skills into investigation. The way it used to be, a local reporter in Jonathon's area would spend the gumshoe to comb through tedius records, track down elusive witnesses, research personal histories, and cozy up to LE. He or she would put a lot of time in on it, likely including unpaid time, knowing that to provide detailed coverage and possibly overlooked leads could result in a huge career boost, possibly taking the reporter all the way to a Pulitzer prize.

These days newspapers are owned by conglomerates with no particular interest in the local areas they "serve." They employ glorified copy clerks to pull news off the AP and paste it into today's edition.

We have joked in my area that if a criminal and victim broke into the newspaper office and staged their crime on the copy writer's desk, it might get a blurb. Actually, we have one brilliant crime reporter in our area whom I think should win a Pulitzer one of these days ... but he is only one person and can only cover so many crimes. Sometimes we don't know any details of crimes that have happened locally until there's some trial coverage. Evidently it's cheap enough to send a reporter to a court room or to search court records than it is to send that reporter out in the woods, to an urban dumpster, or wherever the action is really taking place.

The gentleman I spoke with at Carnes was very nice and obviously very affected by this. Of course he did not say nor did I ask but I had thought Carnes had donated their services and that was so kind of them.

I’m no expert but, more than likely, the remains weighed much less than 100 lbs given that the human body is composed of about 60% water and fact the remains were burned at high heat.

I question, if the remains were 3 feet long, how could they have fit in that box?

GRAPHIC QUESTION WARNING

With deep regrets and utmost respect to Jonathan and family, I am also left with the question of whether his body still contained his blood before he was torched. This touches on the question of whether there was occult activity associated with his abduction. LE's statements of believing this was not her first murder has left this possibility somewhat open. I wish it could be put to rest absolutely.

Sheesh, it is soooooooo hard to type this stuff, I can hardly stand it.

:truce:

Does anyone know the date that the Mercedes belonging to the Davis's was towed?
Nvermind....found it.

I just wanted to say I haven't kept up with All the threads, I did however read the one about his cremation. That was AD's decision, she wanted to carry them around but Glenn stopped that part and requested he be laid to rest. So yes he was cremated but was then laid to rest in the south park cemetery in pearland. He had a full police escort to the cemetery which he would have loved. It was a hard day on Tuesday but what a beautiful service he had. We still have the memories that no one can take from us. My children will never forget, they were honorary pall bearers. It was hard to watch my children be in so much pain that day, something they will and myself will never forget. I have posted the tribute we were given after the funeral on the FB page Justice for Jonathan.

Renee-you and your family have been in all our prayers. We thought of you, Glenn and the kids a lot this week. I wish there was something we could say to ease your pain, but I know that's impossible. If you ever need a shoulder to cry on, or just someone to talk to...just know that we are all here for you.:blowkiss:

Renee and Glenn ,you guys are the true heroes in all of this.Thank you so much for bringing all that happiness into that little boys life .I think of how much of a difference you guys made in his life.It may have been short but it was so full of joy. There is not one picture where he is not smiling.Thank you for everything you do for the other children as wll,you guys are amazing.

Renee, thank you for sharing with us, and God Bless you AND your family!!!! You are all in the middle of a nightmare right now that will never end, but it will fade to something that you can manage. Life is hard, and sometimes it makes no sense... but in the end - justice will reign. Stay strong Renee!!! Please know that people are thinking about you and that we care. If there is ANYTHING we can do, please let us know!

Article in the Mt. Pleasant, TX Daily Tribune:

"The catch and release killer"
http://www.dailytribune.net/articles/2011/01/10/news/monday04.txt

Excerpts:

The Mona Nelson case now brings forward the other "catch and release" problem we face in our justice system, the tendency of the prosecutors to take the easy way out and let criminals plea bargain their way out of jail time.

In retrospect, anyone with half a brain should have recognized Nelson was violent and would probably some day kill somebody. So why was she walking around, free as a bird?

Because prosecutors can count any kind of guilty plea - even one that only results in probation - as a "win". So they take the easy way out and let people remain at large, until - like Nelson - they commit some truly heinous crime.

[In the comment section, a poster states that "... the victim in the Mona Nelson case in Titus County filed an Affidavit of Non-Prosecution in that case on January 31, 2002."]

I was just coming to the thread to post this article. :) If Titus County uses MN as a lesson, and changes how they do business, that would be a very good thing.
I am hoping that the near silence from LE and MSM on MN means they are busy researching and examining evidence and following leads. But I keep checking every day...

SO , nothing new?? Wonder how that serial killer comment is being handled? Wonder if MN has done so heinous a deed before, or if they are finding this is the first & she acted alone...or if others are being investigated. hmmm
Very sad...rip JF

Thinking about you every day, sweetheart.

IMO I dont think anything much will come out of the Serial Killer comment. I dont believe MN is one and the detective was speaking on the fly and out of emotion and anger. This has been once heck of a journey!!

I think the reason this case isnt all over the news cause it isnt about a pretty, suburban female.

I absolutely agree with you, especially your last statement.

(respectfully snipped)

I think the reason this case isnt all over the news cause it isnt about a pretty, suburban female.

I disagree. I think it's the level of gruesomeness. Most people don't want to be confronted with the details of such a horrible crime against a child.

There are plenty of "pretty, suburban females" who are murdered or disappeared that never make the national news, or drop off the national radar rather quickly. From what I've seen, it often depends on how much the family pushes the story into the spotlight, and what other news stories are competing for the headlines. There are many cases I have followed that can only be tracked through local news outlets. Take the case of Yeardley Love. That one came and went (from the headlines) rather quickly, even though it's still winding its way through the courts. Once the perp is caught, interest often fades.

Once the perp is caught, the wheels of justice turn s-l-o-w-l-y. JMO

I know we had debated on the semantics of this, so I was glad to see clarification on whether JF was in a container or not.
Nelson told investigators that one of Foster's family members paid her $20 to get rid of a plastic container. She said she put the container in a ditch without looking inside. The problem, detectives said, is that Foster's body was not in any kind of container when it was found in the ditch.
