Brandon Scott Lavergne - Guilty Plea and LWOP

Perhaps, but if it were me and I had a serial killer in my family (through marriage or not), I'd be humble and careful not to come across as smug.

I am glad that all good citizens reported what they saw that helped put BSL away and hope that all of us here would do the same. It's just simply the right thing.

I think those were his words as well. I don't think he's been smug. I think others over there have been smug, as if the fact they post on the same message board makes them stars or something too. But Adam himself has been quite humble.

BSL bumped Mickey, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her go, alive.
BSL kidnapped Mickey, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her go, alive.
BSL stabbed Mickey, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her go, alive.
BSL brought Mickey by a hospital, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her go, alive.
BSL brought Mickey to a cane field, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her go, alive.
BSL killed Mickey, he then had a chance to be remorseful & leave her body where it could be found.
BSL buried Mickey, he then had a chance to be remorseful & confess & let her body be found.
BSL was arrested, he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her body be found.
BSL was indicted for 2 capital murders he then had a chance to be remorseful & let her body be found.
And then he suddenly felt enough remorse to let her body be found?
Why wasn't he remorseful enough before? Because it's not about him being remorseful for Mickey and her family or our community, it is remorse for himself that despite his evil deeds, lies, and manipulations, he was suddenly faced with the death penalty.

The Bible does tell people not to judge, states we should pray for our enemy, love our neighbor as ourselves, love the sick, the prisoner, and the poor, it also says to “Abhor what is evil. Cling to what is good,” (Rom. 12:9). It also says to forgive 70 times 7.

I prefer to

Let's also not forget EVERY SINGLE DAY in between those events where he could have expressed that remorse as well. It wasn't until after he say the evidence LE had against him (the disclosure statement) that all of a sudden he found remorse....except it was remorse that he didn't cover his tracks better.

Well, I know that a lot of folks think Brandon had no remorse, and used revealing Mickey's location just to save himself.

Reading what his defense attorney says, it sounds like that he convinced at least his attorney that remorse was a factor in the revelation. Now of course, he could have fooled his own attorney; we don't know the tone of the discussions.

It makes me think of what he thought when he saw the massive community reaction. I'm sure it surprised him, because it sure was a full-court press form family and friends. I'll venture that this full-court press did indeed affect him.

If you think about it, he would have felt differently had Mickey's disappearance just faded from the news, and so he didn't have to constantly see it. Imagine how many flyers he saw. They were unavoidable. Imagine how he felt each time he saw one. It kept it fresh in his mind, and didn't even allow him to compartmentalize it and forget about it himself. It put the family's pain in his face all the time.

From what I've seen of Brandon, he seems to snap. Both in the case of the assault on his wife's cousin, and Lisa Pate, it's a sudden rage. Some people are like this. I'm not trying to make excuses at all; what I'm saying is that it's possible that Brandon has his rages, and then returns to a calmer state of mind, and can't undo what he did. If this is true, then he had enough time to return to that state of mind, before his arrest and then after, that indeed he may have regretted to some degree the pain he had caused. Killers are complicated, and I do believe that some are just emotionless machines, like Derrick Todd Lee, and like Charles Manson, while others have a classic homicidal rage.

We don't know enough to tell, but it is interesting to me that his attorney maintains that remorse plays a factor. I hope that he wrote a sincere letter to the Shunicks. I also understand that they probably are not emotionally prepared to read it, because it could go either way.

First, understand lawyers will say anything. His job is to paint his client in a better light, even if he has plead guilty.

Regarding the bolded, I absolutely agree that the full court press affected him. Not in the sense that he felt sorry for his actions, but that he was remorseful about having picked the wrong victim. I'm sure seeing all the flyers around town affected him. Not in the sense that he felt bad for what he did, but oh sh#(, how do I get this heat off of me? So I absolutely agree, he would have felt differently if there wasn't a full court press, but to me that means he's not truly remorseful for his actions, just remorseful that what he did got him in hot water.

BS Lavergne is a predator. Mickey was his prey. Mickey was just an object of his desire. The rage comes in when he is denied his acquisition. JMO

Even without the rage..he turned his truck around and followed her.....decided to hit her in a dark area with no one around...and he carried a knife and gun with him. Did he actually think that Mickey was going to get into his truck..and think he is sooo cute that nothing would happen. He had that knife and gun because he knew what was going to happen. He didn't care...all he thought was to get his victim and do what he wanted. Even if she didn't fight..i think he would have killed her....or i guess she did fight for her life because she knew what he was going to do. If he was just trying to pick Mickey up with no harm intended..why have the knife and gun?

And THIS is again why I am proud to be a Cajun!

This a prime example of why I love living in Louisiana....I'm from NOLA, and I can say that, as far as we and our neighboring communities are concerned are very giving, kind, and soulful people. We aren't perfect but it makes me proud when we come together and open our hearts for one of our own....and we tend to go outside our own state too!!

You can be street savvy smart at the same time be dumb academically or a lower IQ. BSL was very street savvy in that he improved upon his crimes. Not only that I'm sure his prior prison stay he learned at lot about other' killer's crimes and how they got caught, probably they talked about should of, could of stuff in prison and BSL took from that also.

MOO

I agree. One does not have to be smart to learn when motivated. IMO he was motivated to continue his crimes and stay out of jail. He seemed to have learned from the first crime we know about in 1999. His learning went out the window when Mickey kicked his *advertiser censored**.

You cant put everyone in the same bucket. I have a knife and gun in my car and on me at all times. I am a female, but this is for my protection against the BSL's out there.

RE: and he carried a knife and gun with him

Kateinfl, was speaking to BSL's intentions on 05/19/2012

sdebusk, BSL was a Tier 3 RSO & convicted Felon. It is a felony for him to be in possession of a firearm & possibly the knife depending on the blade length.

You are protecting yourself.....what would he be protecting himself from? Where was the knife and gun when he lied about being stabbed and robbed at the gas station in NO. I think he carried the knife and gun..not for protection...but for his evil thoughts and deeds? JMO

Foxfire - Yes I agree and know that it is a felony, just had the odd feeling that because I have the same items, i didnt want to be put any where near the likes of BSL. Hence the fact I have never even killed an animal, and pray I never have to use it to defend myself.

sdebusk, no worries...no one here is going to judge you for protecting your safety..

I was thinking about BSL's motivations and what seems to be important to him. It seems like it is very important to him not to be seen as a sexual predator. He tried to remove his RSO status and tried to bribe someone at the DMV. He told people that what happened on 1999 was consensual, he did not admit to rape in his plea deal.

:blushing: Thank you Foxfire Just want to do what little me can do to get the rest of the BSL what they deserve.

C. Paul Phelps Correctional Center does not offer a work release program... And BSL was there until September 2005. He was then transferred to Avoyelles Correctional Center, which does offer a work related program. So, apparently if he did any work release it would've been after Sept. 2005

Avoyelles Correctional Center Work release Program

Certain eligible offenders may enter a traditional work release center from six (6) months to three (3) years prior to release from incarceration, depending on the offense of conviction. Offenders who are approved for work release are required to work at an approved job and, when not working, they must return to the structured environment of the assigned work release facility. Probation and Parole Officers are assigned monitoring responsibilities for contract work release facilities. This may include conducting random drug screens and random shakedowns of the facility. Additionally, the Probation and Parole Officer is part of the Auditing Teams that conduct annual audit of work release facilities. Work release programs are successful in assisting an offender with making the transition from prison back into the work force. Approximately 10 to 20 percent of offenders remain with their employer upon release. The work release program is also utilized as a valuable alternative for technical parole violators, in lieu of returning them to prison.

My first time posting. I found this site at the beginning when Mickey went missing. I was trying to stay informed and MSM wasn't always reporting any info. I found WS somehow and can't stay away. My daughter is friends with Charlie. They attended ULL together and worked on a study which they presented at a conference. Charlie is amazing and I continue to be impressed with how she and her family have handled such a tragedy. Especially since, like I told Charlie, there was not a blueprint to follow to help them along their journey to find Mickey. But, it's almost like Mickey's family and friends knew exactly what they needed to do to bring her home. I think of BW, her close friend, and the last person to be with her before she went missing. He had to endure speculation that he was involved somehow. I guess, BSL would have been just fine with BW taking the rap for him. My inlaws live on St. Landry St. My husband grew up on that street. I wonder if I will ever be able to drive there without thinking what happened that night. I know that I will be forever changed by this tragedy in our beloved Lafayette. Sorry for the novel but I have a feeling that you people on this site will understand. RIP sweet and Mighty Mickey

Welcome to the websleuth's family, Patticupcake and thanx for sharing. I have a feeling that although you will always think of Mickey Shunick, when riding through St Landry St./Lafayette. The thoughts will be positive ones, of how she has brought the LA community together as one, and made it a safer place for others.. Imo, Mickey Shunick has only begun to fight..and has taught us all about what is most important in life...

:rollercoaster: Welcome to the team!
