Two authors coming to the Florida Heritage Book Festival will present books suggesting intriguing questions. Both will be available to answer inquiries Sept. 15, during the Florida Heritage Book Festival. The festival is a free event open to the public.

Former U.S. Sen. Bob Graham will discuss post-9/11 and his book “Keys to the Kingdom”; and the question raised by author Jeff Ashton is: “Why did Casey Anthony wait more than a month to report her child missing?”

With a January trial looming in the defamation lawsuit brought by Zenaida Gonzalez, attorneys for Casey Anthony want a judge to block any testimony or evidence related to the last time their client was in court — for her murder trial.

In a motion filed late last week, Anthony's attorneys ask Circuit Judge Lisa Munyon to block "any evidence, comment, or other reference by counsel of any witness in this case concerning" Anthony's highly publicized murder prosecution and trial.

Anthony's defense team also filed a second motion asking the judge to compel Gonzalez's lawyers to reduce the number of people on their witness list to "only those persons who might have knowledge of the facts relevant to the case." The latest version of the list, Anthony's team says, included 89 names, and failed to specify what each witness would testify about.

By Jeff Weiner, Orlando Sentinel - 6:35 p.m. EDT, September 6, 2012
The State of Florida filed its answer on Thursday to Casey Anthony's appeal of her convictions for lying to law enforcement officers about the death of her daughter, Caylee Marie.
Anthony has appealed her four misdemeanor convictions and asked for a new trial.
The next step in the appeal is for the Anthony team to reply to the paperwork filed by the state on Thursday. That reply is due in 25 days. After that, the case will be set for oral argument before the Fifth District Court of Appeal in Daytona Beach.
In its answer, filed Thursday, the state countered that Anthony was not officially in custody when she lied to investigators and her appellate brief "failed to show a double jeopardy violation" or prove an issue with the instructions.
Anthony has cited her pending appeal to avoid answering questions about her daughter's death in that suit, which is currently set for trial in Jan. 2. A spokeswoman for the DCA said Thursday it appears unlikely the appeal will conclude before then.

paraphrase reasons for appeal by defense:
1- Jury should not heard about lies when handcuffed and put in police car - not read rights
2- four convictions violate the double-jeopardy protection
3- Judge Perry incorrectly ruled against an objection to part of the jury instructions about perjury

By Dr. Keith Ablow - Published September 06, 2012
Recent headlines are spotlighting a new habit among parents who want their kids to go to sleep on time: They are drugging them with a synthetic version of the hormone melatonin.

Wait a second. Wasn’t that the big gripe (never proven) about Casey Anthony? Everyone was up in arms about the notion that she might have drugged her daughter to get her to sleep.
When we look back at that decline, we will see many points of reference on the timeline: The abandoning of psychotherapy as a healing art by the American Psychiatric Association, the publication of Listening to Prozac (which was also an argument against listening to people and their feelings), the giving of fake trophies to every kid (whether winners or losers), the wholesale distribution of marijuana via decriminalization, the advent of designer drugs, the epidemic of addiction to the Web, and, yes, the medicating of kids with melatonin.

By Robert Snell - September 7, 2012 at 6:47 am
Detroit — Federal prosecutors in the City Hall corruption trial against Kwame Kilpatrick have hired a jury expert who has worked on several blockbuster cases involving high-profile defendants, including former NFL star O.J. Simpson and Casey Anthony, a Florida mom acquitted of killing her daughter last year.
Besides working for Anthony's defense team, Richard Gabriel also has worked on cases involving Hollywood madam Heidi Fleiss and music producer Phil Spector, who was convicted in 2009 of killing a restaurant hostess.
The hire is a rare move made by the U.S. Attorney's Office in Detroit and illustrates the importance of picking a jury in the area's most important public corruption case in decades, experts said.
