Having read a fair bit of the evidence, there were enough elements of doubt about the cause of the man's death in this case, to warrant this jury verdict. The jury found on the evidence presented, regardless of the accused Counsel's assertions in representation. MOO

What? Is it the same Peter Davis in Patel AND GBC's court case? I didn't think you could switch between being Crown Prosecutor and Defence? Wow. Learn something new every day.

Doesn't he only recognise women who 'want' him? Doubt if he'd notice one who seems to dislike him.

I thought he'd be used to people disliking him by now... Is he still in a confined area in Arthur Gorrie or is he out and about with the other men?

Also, I just found this:

'The 41-year-old was reportedly tired, teary and gaunt-looking after losing a lot of weight since being arrested on June 13'

http://www.news.com.au/national-new...ion-with-parents/story-fndo4ckr-1226437064918

By the looks of things, he has beefed up again. I think he's either being fed well, or he is on anti-d's.

If OW does genuinely believe her brother is innocent, I wonder who she thinks did it or she just doesn't ever want to think about that because she wouldn't like what she comes up with.

The Caterpillars?

UUUUURGH ! The parents only spent about 7 years in Rhodesia (now Zimbabwe!)

You forgot Lord Lucan.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I didn't see any tears even though she was 'upset'. Then she seemed to go strraight into hoping the police make sure they explore every avenue... if there were any tears they got sucked back in pretty fast.

Way too late though... as I've said a zillion times before where was the outcry about finding the real killer? Why weren't the BC's fearful of 'whoever' murdered Allison might come for the girls? If it wasn't GBC, then for all they knew it could have been someone with something against the family. But they never seemed to have any of those fears.
Hell, I'm shocked they didn't produce a ransom note.

Of course she was a little bit upset. But OK now. Took nearly a year. But, Finally the penny is dropping, brother might be in a spot of bother.
OK, (never say die) time to practice the well rehearsed speech that is sure to suck 'em in. Go for the emotional blackmail. Give a good performance, and expect a good result.
Remember the Nigerian scam style email to parishioners trying to extort money, not to find Sister in law's killer; but to get the suspected killer off the bloody hook.

I don't think they understood the evidence properly. In any case, Patel isn't off the hook yet.

UPDATE 5:35pm: Premier Campbell Newman says it is up to the Director of Public Prosecutions to determine whether or not to go ahead with Jayant Patel's remaining charges.

Patel faces two manslaughter, two grievous bodily harm, one attempted fraud and seven fraud charges from his time as a surgeon at Bundaberg Base Hospital.

Their legacy - extremely bad taste in home decoration.:twocents:

Another day ... another interesting read! Thanks everybody for the posts and tweets, etc.!!

It appears that the "heat in the kitchen" got too much for OW today! If she really had/has no knowledge of what really happened that fateful night, I think she is starting to doubt his innocence now. The evidence today regarding the scratches/fingernails, etc. must have been a big blow to her. Several forensic specialists concurring in their analysis of how those scratches came to be on his face/torso was very compelling IMO. Pity we now have to wait until Monday to see what else is there to come.

Allison fought and fought hard, and she may ultimately be the one putting the nail in his coffin!!!

Yes exactly Gerard is not Zimbabwean or South African or African. He grew up and was educated in Australia. He has spent majority of his childhood, his entire adolescence and all of his adulthood in Australia.

And he was born in England.

All true, long, longtime here and GBC grown up and educated here...and yet.....
BWANA tells the story.

Just found this on twitter and it was really funny!

Jayant Patel found not guilty. Gerard Baden-Clay books that jury in for his trial

"My husband and I have lived our lives committed to the truth. We implore the police to investigate every avenue so that there is no miscarriage of justice in this case. Contrary to media reports, I have fully and willingly um cooperated with police at all times throughout their investigation. I have provided a formal statement and several interviews. I believe to my knowledge that other members of my family have done the same.

Can someone help me get my head around this (bolded) part of Olivias rehearsed speech yesterday? We all know that not to be the case.

Yes, I think by her saying "To the best of my knowledge" means at least she can pretend that's what she thinks even though it's not true. If anyone ever says "Well here's proof that they have not cooperated" she can then say "Well, I did say to the best of my knowledge".

I think if she REALLY believed they had fully cooperated she would outright state that. But she didn't.
