OH - Three students killed in Chardon High School shooting, 27 Feb 2012

I can only hope he decides he should say something similar to one of his more violent fellow inmates.

Never should have been allowed to sit in the courtroom with that shirt on or without handcuffs. Poor courtroom control.

"This hand that pulled the trigger that killed your son now masturbates to the memory," Lane told the courtroom before giving everyone the middle finger.

Ya know - its creeps like these that make me say I pony up the 50 cents for the bullet!!!!

I still blame the judge - completely and totally. Its his courtroom and he rules it. Wonder if he'll get any backlash from all this? WHY didn't he do something?

The judge says he did not see it: (how is that possible when he is right in front of him?)

...........A statement released later to local media by the court on the judge's behalf said that he wasn't aware of the shirt and that if he had noticed it he would have halted the proceedings and ordered Lane to wear proper attire.

A student who was wounded in the rampage dismissed Lane's outburst.

"He said it like a scared little boy and couldn't talk slow enough that anyone could understand him," said Nate Mueller, who was nicked in the ear in the shooting.

Dina Parmertor, mother of victim Daniel, called Lane "a pathetic excuse for a human being" and wished upon him "an extremely, slow torturous death." She said she has nightmares and her family has been physically sick over the crimes.

"From now on, he will only be a killer," she said, as Lane's smile widened. "I want him to feel my anger toward him."..............more

I'm against the death penalty, but after a buddy emailed me that cleveland.com article I linked above, I seem to have written him back, "Lane should be clubbed down by Death and then handed over to it." A real blood-boiler, this one.

Ok, let's give the judge the benefit of the doubt about "seeing" the shirt - why didn't he have him either: a) removed or b) muzzled - yes, they do that; after that "pornographic outburst"? This judge (and the court, city, etc.) is in "spin mode" now. There is no excuse for allowing that. The media took pictures of him in the courtroom; I watched a video of him coming in, the minute he sits down with his attorney he starts unbuttoning the light blue dress shirt he had on. His attorney KNEW and SAW - c'mon.

No excuse. Period.

He didn't see it - yea right,
it ain't fittin' , it ain't fittin' , it ain't fittin'

It just ain't fittin'

Hope that judge ain't an elected judge - me thinks he probably won't be seeking (or winning) re-election.

If you have seen any of the videos of the hearings in the courtroom you will see how the courtroom is set up and how it is totally possible that the Judge did not see the writing on t-shirt. In every video I have seen of the proceedings, the defendant is seated at a table, and does not face the judge head-on.

This article talks about how they think he was able to get into court with the 'killer' t-shirt on:

How Ohio School Killer TJ Lane Snuck 'Killer' T-Shirt Past Authorities
ABC News

March 20, 2013

"Chardon school shooter TJ Lane likely got up in the middle of the night before his sentencing to scrawl the word "killer" across a prison T-shirt, a brazen move that shocked his attorney, victims' families and even the judge, according to the Geauga County Sheriff's Office.

After the convicted killer arrived in court for his sentencing hearing on Tuesday, he unbuttoned his blue button down shirt to reveal the T-shirt. There were gasps in the courtroom."

"Lt. John Hiscox, Jr. of the Geauga County Sheriff's Office said that inmates at the jail are allowed to have three t-shirts, underwear and socks in their room. They also have pliable rubber pens for writing letters and filling out commissary forms.

"What the sheriff thinks happened is in the middle of the night, prior to him going up to court, he had taken one of his T-shirts and wrote the word on it, put the T-shirt on under his jail uniform," Hiscox said."

More / with videos ...

And, an article with video of what was said in court after the sentencing portion:

Geauga County judge didn't notice T-shirt TJ Lane wore in court that had 'KILLER' handwritten on it
NewsNet5

"Following his life in prison without parole sentence for the murders of Daniel Parmertor, Demetrius Hewlin and Russell King Jr., prosecutors asked that two things be put on the record:

1. After Lane walked into the packed courtroom Tuesday, he calmly unbuttoned his blue dress shirt to reveal the T-shirt reading "KILLER," which the prosecutor noted was similar to the one he wore the day of the deadly shooting at Chardon High School.
2. Lane turned in his chair toward the victims' relatives and raised his middle finger at them as he spoke, "The hand that pulls the trigger that killed your sons now masturbates to the memory."

Geauga County Common Pleas Court Judge David Fuhry replied, "the first I cannot confirm, but the second I can confirm for the record.""

The kid has serious problems, imo, and I wouldn't want to be anywhere near him at any time in the future.

The parents of the 3 students killed are fighting in court, because they didn't get more money from the Chardon Healing Fund. I really don't want to sound harsh, and I'm as sorry as I can be that their children were killed, but...really? You wanted MORE? Their bills (all their bills, utility bills, mortgages, etc.) were paid by the fund for a full year!!!! How can they possibly fault the fund for using some of the money to protect the children of the area???? And what about the parents of the kids who were injured in the shooting? Seems to me THEY are the ones who need ongoing monetary care.

These parents are really just making me sick. They're also giving the whole Chardon area a black eye. They say it's not about the money...which just seems so insulting, because, of course, it is. That, and greed, apparently. I guess it just got too easy to have someone pay all your bills for a year. Kind of hard to take care of yourself after that, apparently.

I wonder what their deceased children would think of their actions? Seems like they could honor their memory better by living as joy-filled lives as possible, not squabbling over money in court. No amount of money will bring their kids back.

(ETA: I felt slightly bad about my post, but then I looked at the local paper, and I see that I'm not alone, and I learned some things I otherwise would not have known, from reading the comments:

Channel 3, WKYC is reporting on their FB page that TJ Lane ESCAPED from prison in Lima Ohio today. Says details to follow....

He was captured at 1:20 am this morning about 100 yards from the prison, still wearing his prison blues and armed with a pitchfork. He put up no resistance. All three inmates have been captured and returned to the prison. The last one to be caught had ditched his clothes to try and throw off the search dogs. The dogs found him anyway!

They need to do something about the security at that prison! All three inmates were housed in a protective control unit for prisoners whose safety might be threatened by other inmates.
