UT UT - Kiplyn Davis, 15, Spanish Fork, 2 May 1995

Federal prosecutors said Thursday they are willing to call 70 witnesses to counter a Spanish Fork man's claims of denial to his involvement in the disappearance and apparent murder of 15-year-old Kiplyn Davis.

Timmy Brent Olsen, 28, appeared before U.S. District Judge Thomas Greene on Thursday to set a trial date. Last month, Olsen became the third man to be indicted on multiple counts of perjury before a grand jury in connection with Davis' disappearance from Spanish Fork High School on May 2, 1995.
Olsen is charged with 20 counts of lying to a grand jury. According to court transcripts, Olsen was brought before a grand jury in April and confronted with alleged statements he made to various people that he had taken Davis from school and drove her up a nearby canyon with another man and returned without her. At other times, Olsen allegedly told unnamed witnesses that he killed Davis. "I took her, I beat her and disposed of the body," one witness has said Olsen told him or her. Through questioning, grand jury transcripts show Olsen repeatedly denied ever making those statements.

Greene set a trial date of Jan. 9 to give attorneys time to either resolve the case or go through extensive discovery that consists of reports, tape recordings and transcripts.

A Spanish Fork man suspected in the decade-old disappearance of a teenage girl will stay in federal custody pending his Jan. 9 trial on perjury charges, a federal magistrate has ruled.

For years, at least 20 friends and associates might have been keeping silent about Timmy Brent Olsen's alleged statements that he was responsible for the disappearance of a Spanish Fork teenager.
Many were frightened by his alleged threats, some appeared indifferent to the suffering of the 15-year-old's family and a few might have been protecting a friend from prosecution, authorities say.
But now, the silence is broken and Olsen is accused of lying to a grand jury investigating what happened to Kiplyn Davis after she was last seen on May 2, 1995. And on Thursday, a federal magistrate ordered Olsen held in jail until his trial on perjury charges, ruling that the 28-year-old mechanic is a danger to the community.

Another Man Indicted in Kiplyn Davis Case
October 31st, 2005 @ 4:03pm

Sam Penrod Reporting

Paul Warner, US Attorney For Utah: "These indictments have gone a long way in breaking this conspiracy of silence, and we intend to file more."

New developments today in the case of missing teenager Kiplyn Davis. A grand jury indicted yet another suspect for perjury, as prosecutors push for answers about her disappearance. Christopher Jeppson is the fourth person indicted for lying about what they knew about Kiplyn's disappearance in 1995. Jeppson was a classmate of Kiplyn's.

Chris Jeppson was arrested and brought to court today, charged with nine counts of perjury and making false statements. He is the latest person accused of hiding information in what authorities believe is the murder of Kiplyn Davis, ten and a half years ago.

Am I reading this right? None of this progress happened until the State AG stepped in and started investigating? If so, it sounds like a good hard look into the local LE office would be in order. a bunch of teenagers lying for one another should have been pretty easy to crack if LE would have done their jobs 10 years ago.

Scuttlebutt in Spanish Fork is that one of the kids who helped in her murder was one of the cops' kids. He fessed up what he did to the dad and the cop helped cover him up and has been obstructing justice or whatever to keep it on the back burner. Seemed it was working till lately......

That's just rumor around here....no facts......

A federal prosecutor says more indictments are to come in the 10-year-old disappearance case — and now suspected murder — of 15-year-old Kiplyn Davis.
On Monday, an indictment against 28-year-old Christopher Neal Jeppson was unsealed, accusing the West Jordan man of nine counts of making false statements to an FBI agent and perjury before a grand jury.
Jeppson's indictment by a federal grand jury brings to four the number of men now charged with taking part in what prosecutors say is a 10-year-old conspiracy of silence surrounding Davis' disappearance from Spanish Fork High School on May 2, 1995.

Lambert said the indictments in the Davis disappearance are far from over, saying yet more people may be indicted "soon."
Trials have already been scheduled in January for Brunson, Blackmore and Olsen. Jeppson is expected to appear before a U.S. magistrate Wednesday on the latest charges.

How tragic that for ten years, there were people who knew what happened to Kiplyn, yet they let her family suffer such anguish.

Law enforcement either didn't do a thorough enough job, or there was a big cover up.

I wonder if "UP" is the policeman's son who is rumored to have been involved in this?

A murder charge may finally be coming after ten years in a missing person mystery. A federal prosecutor says it's not if, but when, more charges will be filed in the Kiplyn Davis disappearance.

One of four men indicted in the Kiplyn Davis case has been held at the Salt Lake County Jail. He'll get out of jail for the time being, though officials say he and others are by no means in the clear.

Assistant U.S. Attorney Carlos Esqueda says Timmy Olsen will face new state charges.

"We have worked closely with the Utah County prosecutor's office, Kay Bryson's office, and I expect that forthcoming," said Esqueda. “They will take action."

2News reporter asked Esqueda if that action would include murder charges.

"That's up to Mr. Bryson,” replied Esqueda. “He'll have to evaluate all the evidence and he'll decide what charges that will be brought against Mr. Olsen. A possibility is a murder charge, yes."

Prosecutors said they won't seek the death penalty against a Connecticut man accused of killing a suburban Kansas City teenager at the community swimming pool where she worked.

Though "incredibly heinous," District Attorney Paul Morrison said Wednesday the killing of 19-year-old Ali Kemp does not meet the legal criteria for the death penalty.

Benjamin Appleby, 30, was arrested under a different name last November in Litchfield, Conn. The former pool cleaner pleaded not guilty last month to charges of first-degree capital murder and attempted rape in the June 2002 killing of the Kansas State University student.

Missing girl: More lies alleged
Fifth man indicted in 1995 disappearance

By Pamela Manson
The Salt Lake Tribune

A fifth man has been accused of lying about the disappearance of Kiplyn Davis, a step authorities say could finally reveal what happened to the Spanish Fork girl a decade ago.
U.S. Attorney Paul Warner said Monday that perjury charges against David Rucker Leifson are another blow to a conspiracy that frightened many people into keeping quiet about the possible 1995 kidnapping and presumed death of the teenager.

The fifth man indicted in the disappearance of Kiplyn Davis will be released from jail so he can continue working.

The government didn't have sufficient cause to keep David Rucker Leifson, 28, locked up in the Salt Lake County Jail, said U.S. District Magistrate Judge Samuel Alba.

But during the hearing Wednesday morning, Esqueda told Alba that he had a recording of threats Leifson made to another man charged in the case, Timmy Brent Olsen. The recording is from 1996, Esqueda said, adding that it includes a claim by Leifson that he is a chameleon and can fool anybody.

A former schoolmate of missing Spanish Fork High School teen Kiplyn Davis has struck a deal with federal prosecutors, making him the first to step forward out of the five suspects indicted on charges of lying to a grand jury about Davis' disappearance.

According to the U.S. Attorney's Office, Scott Brunson, 28, is expected to change his plea Thursday from innocent to guilty to part of the six counts of making false statements to an FBI agent and grand jury. He is accused of offering a false alibi to someone who confessed to having a hand in Davis' death.
Brunson's indictment in April came as the first big break in the 10-year-old case. Since April, four other men have been indicted.

I saw Kiplyn's parents on TV about a year or so ago on a program about missing persons.

And to think this gang of creeps all knew what had happened to her and wouldn't speak up to relieve the troubled hearts of her parents.

They should all get long, long jail terms. Sounds like it may have been a gang rape.

The Kiplyn Davis Story, a Decade Later
With several of the missing teen's friends facing perjury charges, questions about her fate haunt the community as never before. Now, her parents beg Spanish Fork: Tell what you know.

SPANISH FORK - As snow drifts over their hometown and into the winding canyons of the nearby Wasatch Mountains, Richard and Tamara Davis are running out of patience.
For almost a decade, they have longed to lay their daughter Kiplyn to rest under the granite headstone engraved with only her birth date in a Spanish Fork cemetery. They were hopeful this would be the year: Five men - most of them Kiplyn's former classmates - have been indicted since April for perjury, for allegedly lying during the investigation into the teenager's disappearance and presumed death.
Prosecutors contend more than 20 people in the community have heard stories: Kiplyn was taken up thecanyons east of town; into Spanish Fork Canyon or Diamond Fork Canyon; or to the dark tunnels where trains carry coal, freight and passengers through the mountains; or buried somewhere in sand; or moved two years after her death.

SALT LAKE CITY – The family of Kiplyn Davis was closer to learning her fate on Thursday after a man agreed to divulge everything he knows about the Utah County teenager's disappearance a decade ago.
Scott Brunson, 28, admitted in federal court he provided a bogus alibi for a friend suspected of having a hand in the girl's death. He also agreed to testify at an expected murder trial.

70 witnesses?? i mean, it seems like kiplyns poor family are the ONLY people that dont know what happened! how has it taken so long to get this much information!

Evidently there were several men involved in this crime. They concocted a story and stuck with it with LE. Though several of the men have told stories to other individuals. They have a good idea what happened, and they have been bringing each of the men to the Grand Jury to testify. As they pick apart each man's story, they can pick out when they are lying, but still the men are sticking to the story. So they don't have a body, or proof of a murder, so they are charging each witness with perjury as they testify and they find a lie. A long slow process.

Secrecy surrounding the 1995 disappearance of a Spanish Fork teen began to lift Thursday as a former classmate admitted providing a fake alibi for a buddy long considered a central suspect in the case.
Scott Brunson entered guilty pleas in U.S. District Court in Salt Lake City to one count of perjury and two counts of making false statements to authorities investigating what happened to Kiplyn Davis.
He acknowledged he lied about Timmy Brent Olsen's whereabouts when he claimed Olsen was helping him shingle a shed on May 2, 1995, the day Kiplyn left Spanish Fork High School and was never seen again by her family.

As part of a plea deal, the 28-year-old Brunson has agreed to testify against Olsen and other defendants charged with lying in the case. His cooperation could shave time off the 15-year maximum prison term he faces when sentenced March 28 by Judge Ted Stewart, but he will not walk away scot-free.

Lambert said Brunson's family members were instrumental in bringing about the plea bargain. That kind of encouragement "makes all the difference," he said.

I have heard of this case and it looks like they have one, if not all, of those involved, in their sights...looks like someone would break down and confess to where Kiplyn's body is.
So very sad. :(
