And if we are being honest her Mother, her father, Gina and Michelle are all she knows well. Suddenly there are people around her crying, her daddy is gone and so are Michelle and Gina. There is a new home and lots of strangers.

Yes, it will be a huge adjustment for her too. And it will have to be done very carefully. Because the monster everyone is talking about, is the only daddy she has and the only male she knows.

Kids are resilent. I am sure she will be fine.

It sounds like they weren't there very long, ever. But what I find even more odd is that Castros son said there were always locks on the doors, even when he lived there in the 90s. There's a picture of him with his father in the kitchen in 2001, and you can see the lock on the door then. So it begs the question ..... were there other girls there before????

And does this not beg the question that, no matter how we're related, we owe it to "humanity" to speak up, question, and challenge those in our family when we know things are abnormal? And how abnormal?

It seems those who should be most concerned (and reporting) are those who may consider their family member's eccentricities not much worse than their's or their neighbors.

I dunno the right answer but am in shock that the question, alone, is one we have to ask. And, even worse, that there's not one single good stock answer!

I'm thinking about the abductions. We know that in all three cases he offered the girl a ride and they got into his car. I wonder what happened next? How did he manage to get them into his house without too much of a commotion? Did they scream for help and struggle when he forced them into the house? Did he use some sort of ruse? Did he threaten them, or even drug them before walking from the car to the house? How did he do it?

And also: it's unlikely, I think, that he attempted three times to abduct a girl and succeeded three times. 100% sucess rate? It's more likely that there were other attempts that were unsuccessful and the girl managed to run away. I wonder if LE is looking into abduction attempts over the past decade or more.

@rl85
Why do you think he regretted taking Gina?

I think he regretted it, because she was young. I remember reading somewhere that he didn't think she was as young as what she was. And also in his suicide note, he wrote that he didn't know what he was looking for a third when he already had 2. Sounds like he acted on impulse with Gina.

Considering Gina was friends with his daughter, I find it hard to believe he didn't know how old she was. As for his "suicide" note, he is still alive, ain't he?

i think all of his regret was from the fear of getting caught. he had 2 and no one suspected him. now he goes for a 3rd, shes not only younger, but someone close. He was probably thinking they(LE) would be interviewing him anyday, and he would have a chance before arrested to take his own life. eventually heat died down and he realized he was in the clear. Death to him is the easy way out, Hes a scared little sack of .... you could see the fear in his face in court. I really wish he was with general pop, rather then secluded in the "high profile" area.

Anyone else find the mannequin thing odd. Not just the mannequin itself but the fear.

My children are young, but the second they find out something scary isn't real (halloween masks, etc) they are ok with it. They may not voluntarily play with it but the fear is gone.

What was so scary about this mannequin that even after finding out it is plastic the girls are terrified of it so much that it is used as a threat, and effectively I might add!

It just seems weird.

Agreed it's weird, although I do know people who are terrified of clowns into their 20s, 30s, 40s and beyond. I always wondered what had to have happened to make them so afraid of clowns! Although there've been horror movies involving clowns so maybe it's more common than I think.

I suppose if you woke up in the middle of the night and saw the mannequin next to your bed staring at you, or if it mysteriously "moved" to different places all the time, it could be scary. Also if your dad/uncle/whoever told you scary stories about it. Maybe there was some sort of back-story that made it frightening. I don't want to get into details because I hate even letting my mind go there, but I can think of all kinds of sick stories someone might tell a child to make it seem like a real threat. If there was any hint of actual reality to it, it might work on some level with an adult who overheard the story.

The Cleveland public relations firm of Hennes Paynter Communication is representing all three women, said Barbara Paynter of that company. Paynter said that her firm of crisis management specialists is working pro bono after being "asked to help them out," joining a team of like-minded individuals that includes lawyers and counselors.

The rescued women, none of whom have spoken publicly since being freed, are set to issue a full statement at 10 a.m. Sunday, according to Paynter.

From the same article:

Meanwhile, the FBI is continuing the process of sealing off and boarding up the areas near the home of the alleged captor that they have checked for evidence.

On Saturday morning they were boarding up and closing off an abandoned house to the right of Castro's home. The abandoned house had been searched Thursday, and authorities were seen removing evidence from that home.

I wonder why. I wonder what led them to that home and what they removed from it. Had he other girls in there?

I hope the Kardashians never have a chance to exploit them in the media.

Oh you bet if they get the opportunity they will do.
The girls have been through enough they don't need to be subjected to the Kardashians too! ;)

But seriously I'm hoping all three girls can recover as best as they can from this horrid ordeal. I feel so sorry them.

I don't want to spend a lot of time arguing this, and have been mostly trying to ignore this line of discussion... But no one but her and her doctors can comment on Michelle's capabilities.

At the age she disappeared most would have said the same things about me. I was held back, developmentally delayed, and would sometimes get disoriented. I was dyslexic, so I was behind in school because that's what people do who don't understand dyslexia do to slow readers. It was a language based disorder rooted in poor auditory processing. When you don't process what people are saying- you also get disoriented in auditory environments.

I went on to college and I am a grad student with a perfect GPA. Nothing wrong with my intellect, I simply had my unique developmental needs ignored due to ignorance on what those needs were. I "came into my own" a little later I life than someone who had their developmental needs met would. End of story.

I personally feel we should leave Michelle's capabilities out of our discussion. And I will continue not to respond or comment on it- just wanted to share that thought.

That makes a lot of sense. He likely expected to be caught because his daughter and Gina were friends. He likely expected police would interview him and figure it all out. But it never happened. I bet he couldn't believe his luck.

I totally agree with you about J. She is going to be traumatized as well and she was from the moment that Amanda had gotten out of the house. Check out these quotes from below it showed how quickly she got confused. The poor thing crying for her Daddy.

"While Berry speaks with a dispatcher, the 6-year-old cries for her Daddy and runs back toward Castro's house. Cordero stops her. In the commotion, her wig begins falling off. Berry removes it and leaves it on one of the patio chairs."

And then this:

"Berry explains who she is -- the girl "on the news for the last 10 years." She pleads with the dispatcher to send police before Castro returns. She grows impatient as the dispatcher asks what Castro is wearing. Her little girl won't stop crying.

"Sweetheart, it's OK," Berry says.

Her voice trembles as the dispatcher keeps talking. "OK. Huh? I need ... OK.""

Who knows what Castro has said to her -- if mommy ever gets out... mommy isn't allowed to leave... etc.
