Michael Powell commits suicide

Wow, how incredibly sad ...........:rose:

I don't know why Jennifer Graves is estranged from her family and NOMB but I would imagine the deaths would be hard on her. I sure hope she made her peace with them and has no regrets.

In my opinion, she was smart to stay away from her family. Most of them are/were crazy toxic people, pornographers and/or murderers.

Graves always believed her brother killed Susan Powell.

I don't see why she would have anything to regret, since she is just leading a normal life away from them. What I'm sure she regrets is that her brother killed his own wife and children.

From 2011

The estranged sister of Josh Powell said Wednesday that she believes her brother is responsible for Susan Powell's disappearance, and she is glad the couple's children are no longer in Josh's care.

. . . "I think he's responsible for his wife's disappearance," Graves said. "More than ever, I'm convinced that (the boys) shouldn't be with Josh, and they certainly never should have been with my dad."

. . . "I've known my dad's character for a long time. That's why we chose to stay away from him," Graves said. "We chose our children not to have a personal relationship with him. We made that decision a long time ago and, let me tell you, we're really really grateful that we did."

Michael Powell was involved in a website critical of the police. He was trying to clear Josh and his father. He even wrote that Jennifer should be investigated for the disappearance instead of Susan! Nutty delusional stuff.

http://www.ksl.com/?nid=148&sid=19065471

The site includes a string of links to documents and news stories and says the police have bungled the investigation, while child protective service workers have ignored the children's peril.

"It doesn't surprise me because they're going to try and do stuff to take the eyes off them and put it on somebody else and make themselves look a little better," said Jennifer Graves, Josh and Michael Powell's sister, who reiterated she wants the boys to continue to stay with the Coxes. "They're trying to make Josh look better so he can get his kids back, obviously."

Josh Powell's brother, Michael, wrote in his blog that he has reason to believe the West Valley Police department has overlooked viable leads, "probably intentionally, including Steven Koecher, Tim Peterson, Chuck Cox, and (Powell's estranged sister) Jennifer Graves."

"Should they be looking at me?" said Graves "I'm sure that they've looked at me and everyone else that has ever known Susan."

I could see SP pulling a JP stunt once he gets out of jail (is it this May?) and blowing up his house with his last two kids in it just to make sure nobody ever finds out where Susan is, and to give a huge F-U to all law enforcement everywhere.

Wow... This family... Very toxic and filled with hatred against law and order, which is exactly why I fear SP's release could be catastrophic. I'm sure he, and his surviving children, minus JGraves, are putting the blame on society and LE, etc., and if consistent with their past behaviors and actions, I think revenge is highly likely. They will never accept the blame for any of this, and I hope somehow, someway LE is ready and able for whatever may come upon SP's release. I believed he was capable, and an extreme danger to society before this latest development, but now I'm almost certain the risk is too great that he will exact revenge, and we prolly haven't heard the last from this toxic family.... They seem to take pleasure, and go to great links, to get the last word... God help those in their path...

All jmo.

"Powell, 30, leapt to his death from a seven-story Minneapolis parking lot in the middle of the afternoon just after filing an objection to a court who declined to award him $1.5 million insurance money from the death of his brother and nephews."

I'm not so sure this source has all their facts straight. I noticed a couple little errors that make me think the writer doesn't have everything straight.

My main issue is that I am not sure the court actually awarded the $1.5 M to the Coxes. They only made them the conservators of her estate. I do not believe anything has been decided as to who will get the money from Josh's and the boy's insurance policies, if anyone. The court still has to decide.

Michael Powell was in a legal battle with Chuck and Judy Cox over the 1.5 million dollar life ins. policies and SP was listed as a beneficiary and Michael Powell defended his father...so I would not think SP had his son killed. I won't play favorites because I do not know these families..but Chuck and Judy Cox are legally fighting for the insurance money also.

It was the insurance company that brought the suit for the court to decide. Not the Coxes.

One thing I do know is that the entire Powell family swore up and down that Susan "ran off" with some other man and that she is still alive, so certainly they should not receive any life insurance from a woman who is still alive, right? And if she is still alive (according to them) she did not give her consent for Josh to change his policy, so she should be the sole beneficiary (or whatever was set up when the policies were purchased).

If she is dead, then why should her murderer's family collect on her death? If anyone should collect, it should be HER family.

I wonder who the remaining Powells will blame for Michael's suicide? Their list of who dun it is already pretty long. The ultimate in absurdity would be to blame Susan; to say that she ran away and then came back to push Michael. Then again, the Powells are not known for logic and consistency. IMHO

it is a shame the funds can't be utilized to start a scholarship fund of some sort, maybe at their mother's alma mater if there is one?? ...in honor and memory of the boys, seeing as how sadly they will never have the opportunity grow up and become men

Wow. Just when you think you're beginning to hear the last of this family (at least until Stephen Powell's release date).

BBM Thanks gwenabob, I had no idea that it was the ins. co. that brought the suit to court.

ETA: Sorry, I have failed at my first attempt at multiquoting.

Oh my. I just read this 6 weeks later (followed too many other cases). This is so sad. My heart is just breaking that so many people have died. This has become a horrible tragedy . Susan, Josh, Charlie, Braden, now Michael. Five people dead. My prayers to the family and their heartbreak. I couldn't imagine this.

I met SP a few times years ago (chills and ewww). Not a man you want to be around at all or ever again. It was via work years ago. Of course my personality doesn't cater to much. Especially a freak like him using my phone. He was so so so arrogant. I still want to spit on him as he was one of the most rudest SOB in my line of work then (schools) that I've ever met. I've met plenty. I'm a scorpio, I remember people like him. Rude SOB & sick to boot.

Did Josh Powell's Brother Commit Suicide Because He Buried Susan's Body?

Bremner says police learned after Susan disappeared that "Michael had his Ford Taurus towed a hundred miles, and then sold it for salvage value because, police think, he had her body in there. Then he hired militaristic satellite photography people to go look at the wrecking yard to see if his car had been completely destroyed, but it wasn't."

She adds, "Cadaver dogs came to the tow yard and only indicated on his car, no one else's."

Michael Powell had a lot of accomplishments in his life, and may have had a good future had it not been for the burdens he was given by his Father, and the turmoil given by his brother.

God help the rest of them.

:scared: My thoughts exactly. I had to read the thread title twice!! Michael seemed to be only male..?... with a chance to break away from all of this mess and his father's grasp besides Jennifer. Maybe he just hid it better than JP. I'm shocked, but I'm hoping we may find "something" out eventually. Just WOW...and what a destructive path of parenting SP has paved.

Not sure I can link Sword and Scale podcast, but I just listened to episode 22 (posted July 2014), and it mentions that Michael may have been involved in getting rid of Susan's body.

I was on hiatus from WS for a couple of years, had followed Susan's case closely, and this was news to me. Wow. Stunned. However, it aligns well with what one of the boys said about mommy in the trunk.

RIP Susan. :rose: RIP Charlie. :rose: RIP Braden. :rose:
