I don't think that GED Match does that type of things, but the main value is that if you've tested with one company (23&Me, Ancestry, etc.) you can upload your profile to GED Match and the matches of people from all of the testing companies who also upload theirs on GED Match are available to you.

I'm not up on the technology, but others here have said that you can have a "phone" that is for internet connection, but not for regular phone service. They could have communicated via a web site or something? Yes, he had a *device*, but I don't know what service(s) that he got from it.
