Chicken or egg question. BIB What comes first, the appeal to apply to the SC for leave to appeal sentence or do they first try and get a conviction for murder and if that fails, then they appeal the sentence?

Why rush it, he's in prison until the appeal is heard anyway.

    Discussion Thread #60 - 14.9.12 ~ the appeal~

BIB does the public get to hear the verdict and the rationale behind it from each of the judges like what we saw with Masipa or does the public just hear the final overall majority rule verdict?

    Discussion Thread #60 - 14.9.12 ~ the appeal~

Anyone know how long this leave to appeal will take? Will we have an answer within a day or so or is this going to be one of those scenarios where we have days on end of arguments followed by a few days for Masipa to consider her decision?

You are right Cherwell, in a perfect storm, you just never know what you will do. How many of us would ever jump out of a skyscraper window? Probably none of us, but on 9/11, that's exactly what people in the World Trade Center were doing. Under the right pressures, anything could happen.

From some of the courtroom tweets I saw during OP's testimony, it seemed that he was looking at Masipa rather then Nel. It would just seem weird for him to be looking at Masipa having a one way conversation. I do have a feeling though that this was a defence ploy. Nel can be intimidating...

There's a select group on here that has been hell bent to put down any opposing voice that doesn't view Pistorius and his ENTIRE family as pure evil. It was important to bring some balance to that discussion and highlight some of their positive attributes.

Jay-Jay BIB I say this with all due respect. I have read your posts, I don't believe you could ever say a single kind word about anyone from the Pistorius family. Uncle Arnold is not the incarnation of evil. You say in your comment that who in their "right mind would willingly allow...

Cherwell, My sincere condolences to you and your family. As someone that lost his own father at the age of 9, I can understand what you must have gone through. Every year on the anniversary of his passing, my family gets together to have a celebration of his life. The entire family gets...

BIB Phew, thank you for your support. I know I sometimes say things that go against the grain of this board, but we should all be able to express our opinion without fear of repercussion. It just adds to a lively debate.

While you can find a study for pretty much anything these days, people just need to use their logic to recognize what is right and wrong. If we don't accept valid research, we will never progress as a society. Take for instance sugar. There have been studies that have shown that sugar is NOT...

Agree to disagree. My last comment is that you've missed the point of the article, as mentioned earlier "The team said the findings had direct relevance to human society."" In terms of your comment that my original post did not mention mice was simply because the methodology was...

BIB You do realize that the Daily Mail is not a science publication? If you are looking for the scientific method used in this study, the article also addresses that and says that the study was "published in the journal Cerebral Cortex" I've had my work published in scientific journals and...

Yes this study was done with mice. Not sure if you did read the entire article, but I have included a couple of key highlights below. If you are interested in human studies, there are many epidemiological studies that highlight the exact same results. From the article: "The team said the...

You are correct Fuskier. A child is the product of all of their environmental factors, good or bad. I really don't know much about OP's mom, but from what little I have heard, she did sound loving and caring. With Henke, again, I don't know why he was estranged from his son, but there seems...
