4 Univ of Idaho Students Murdered, Bryan Kohberger Arrested, Moscow, Nov 2022 #82

I guess? This type of crime rarely occurs in a vacuum. (I'd say "JMO", but I've been following true crime for way too many years, and I just can't think of another mass slaying where there weren't warning signs that were apparent, if only in hindsight.)

It's also based on the fact that he's been arrested for and charged with the brutal knife murders of four people, including three young women.

Ugh. TikTok as a source is what has made me realize gen z isn’t going to save us unless they can get out of the matrix. :)

I do feel like I’m seeing more gag orders, but it just could be that my distracted mind gets pulled harder to the cases that are already high profile. As for news—there is such a thing as media literacy and it is still possible to learn how to evaluate the veracity of sources, from “random...

UT - Kouri Richins, 33, Author, wife, mom, charged in husband’s “unexpected” death last year, May 2023

The recent trial of Leticia Stauch: the judge threatened to have her hands shackled because she kept giving the middle finger to people on the witness stand/whoever was looking, but out of the judge's eyeline (so she got away with it for a few days). He also threatened to kick her out of the...

I find Dateline's coverage of ongoing cases (when they choose to do it) to be really thorough and helpful. There's no way I would have been able to follow/comprehend the Vallow/Daybell or Murdaugh family cases otherwise. I also appreciated the way they gave Chris Lambert a lot of credit in the...

That interview with Keith Morrison happened before the Dateline episode in question actually aired. It was a teaser. I found an automated transcription of the actual episode but it’s a little messy...

It’s in the Dateline episode/podcast as being reported by one of their sources. If you mean has it appeared in official/unsealed documents, then I guess no. I guess at that point it becomes a question of Dateline’s reputation, but I don’t think I’ve followed a case this contentious while it was...

4 Univ of Idaho Students Murdered, Bryan Kohberger Arrested, Moscow, Nov 2022 #81

I’ve noticed some vibe changes on places like Reddit since the Dateline episode. BK defenders were pretty invested in the idea that sources like Newsnation were just making stuff up. (To be fair, some people still think that all news sources on this case are just making things up.)

I wonder if he wanted to find out how much data they really had access to, and/or be in a position to manipulate it.

If there’s one thing I’ve learned from following true crime, it’s that suspects/criminals are often given way more credit for basic common sense than they deserve. And this isn’t even the first case I’ve seen where people have tried the argument of “these dumb mistakes mean the suspect didn’t...

In addition to Reddit (where they were kicked off and now have to operate more covertly and sort of “dogwhistle” to each other in related forums), I understand there are private “fan” Facebook groups. I don’t use FB, but even if I did I’m not the right kind of inquisitive to go find them...

To me, “trolls” implies people who are just causing trouble online because they like causing trouble online. IMO, some of Bryan Kohlberger’s “fans” are true believers. Either they believe that he’s innocent because (reasons?), or they are simply infatuated with him whether he’s guilty or not...

I keep seeing this question asked, who could possibly be sending these threats!? And here is the answer: Bryan Kohberger has a large and inexplicable online following/fanbase/whatever you want to call it. I’ve never seen anything like it. It’s significant enough that a whole subreddit of his...

More or less randomly: I woke up in the middle of the night because existential dread and all that, and that's why I was awake to see the news of that 2am Banfield tweet. I went to a different discussion site, and many posters 'love this news' because they think it means the prosecution's case...

I am not a lawyer, and I am just repeating what I've seen other people say: with this indictment, no, there will be no PH, it literally bypasses the need for one. Someone please correct me if wrong. Edit: from the KREM article linked just now: "A preliminary hearing has been canceled."

I see she also added 'story coming soon', but how much can they report on? I'm really asking, as a non-lawyer. Are secret grand juries so secret that they can't be acknowledged, and/or are they covered by the gag order? Same question for the arraignment. I assume that becomes public info at...
