I agree it's really a poor job. But I don't understand why not issue "oh yeah, we screwed that up, oops. Here's the actual full picture of the guy". They must have a photo with his actual legs. It's just so strange.

Why would they need a shoe bomb to get through a locked cockpit door, if they have an inside man? Everything I've read says the shoe bomb threat was credible, so to me that actually would make the "real" pilot and co-pilot less suspicious. IMO that lends credence to the plan being to blast...

I think hijacked and landed somewhere... But not really landed "safely" because I doubt any of the passengers are alive. I think the hijackers probably murdered them somehow (lack of oxygen?).

The crazy thought that came to my mind talking about potential siblings/half-siblings of DM... There's no possible way that <modsnip> was somehow the half-sibling or related to the half-sibling?! That would make a pretty good motive. But pretty far-fetched I guess.
