I think that we often see judges who are extremely concerned to protect the integrity of the court proceedings, so the trial results don’t get overturned on appeal. In practice, I think that tends to make them look as though they favor the defense, even though that’s not their motivation.

Right. In my opinion, the defense is not trying to get it thrown out because the sheath evidence is bad evidence. They are desperately trying to get it thrown out, because it is such good evidence.

Thinking about what direction they might have gone, if they were both in Julian. This is an extreme long shot, but if she had any interest in animals, zoos, conservation, the San Diego Zoo Safari Park is a 45 minute drive from Julian, with some terrain that might be able to conceal an accident.
