I really don't think she didn't mean "jack" to him. Or her family. I don't think there was a "plot" to kill her. I think he's an over confident, flawed human being who made a major error in judgement. And he's lying to protect what little he has left.

Because it's just a window. Windows don't crawl out of the wall and eat people. Reasonable people know what could happen if you shove a toddler out a window they dont require warning signage.
