I don't think we need to get too hung up on whether people have cats or not. A lot of people have cats - some people quite a few (although 8* is a bit extreme). I have two cats, and I'm relatively tidy and haven't murdered anyone as yet (and I spent about 4 hours raking leaves earlier today as...

Worth pointing out that (a) he didn't attack any children, and (b) as far as we know has no fetish with regards to them. Active paedophiles are somewhat uncommon, and quite frankly a school cleaner that works outside of school hours when children typically aren't present probably isn't the...

Generally speaking, the advice I have always heard is - if you are guilty - never cooperate with the Police. Realistically, in a case like this it wouldn't make the slightest difference to his eventual sentence, and by not cooperating he reduces his chances of (further) incriminating himself.

It is certainly in bad taste. I guess it has to be read in the context of when it was printed, but still -- represents the poor quality one has grown to expect from Murdoch.

This isn't really a loophole. An Australian citizen has the right to live in Australia, whatever he or she has done elsewhere (obviously if they haven't been convicted, they might get extradited back to another territory for trial, depending on agreements, severity, etc). The same applies to...

As a Software Engineer, I'd have to correct you on this one. Almost all aspects of software design and development are highly interactive (different people have different skills but important perspectives on each others' work), with lots of two-and-fro between team members. One of the big...

Thanks - This was exactly the point I was trying to make prior to the domestic violence derailment.

I'm not really wanting to derail it further, either. This has been a bit of a continued response to the idea promulgated earlier in the thread that there is a spate of murders and that women were feeling they need to live in fear of randomly being selected for slaughter. There aren't and they...

Yes, there is excessive domestic violence and no one is arguing that (it isn't new, by the way). BUT **Domestic violence does not equate to murder**. There is no murder epidemic. There has never been a murder epidemic and there probably never will be a murder epidemic. That is my only point...

Oh, well that's fine then, your Anecdotal evidence must mean a 30 year decline has suddenly gone into sharp reversal and there are people getting slain in the streets. I stand corrected.

Except that they simply aren't. Look at the stats back close to thirty years and the murder rate has dropped year on year. I'll accept that there is a lot of general violence (particularly domestic), but the murder rate is miniscule, and I'm pretty sure it didn't just go ballistic in 2014 after...

I don't disagree. But women really don't need to be afraid of being picked off at random (or pseudo-random as this case appears to be).

In the sense that they are implying *deaths* as being at epidemic levels, yes, they are demonstrably wrong. I trust the ABS above the NT News.

Sure, domestic violence is absolutely reprehensible - you will see no argument from me. But I'm not sure what it has to do with a case like this? My response was really down to several posts with women implying that they were scared or that women are being killed on a regular basis. The...

Found Deceased Australia - Stephanie Scott, 26, Leeton, NSW, 5 April 2015 - #1 *Arrests*

A few ABS statistics on Homicide for those suggesting there is a murder epidemic in Australia. Notable that 2 in 3 are in a domestic setting and 2 in 3 victims are male. Overall, the murder rate has been dropping year on year...

Found Deceased Australia - Stephanie Scott, 26, Leeton, NSW, 5 April 2015 - #1 *Arrests*

That's a very poor article, with no useful supporting statistics. 30 women killed in a population of 23 million is tiny. I'd be very interested to see the statistics for how many were random stranger, rather than domestic violence. It will be a very low number. It would also be interesting to...

I don't think there are an especially large number being killed, beyond the usual domestic violence cases.

I'd be very surprised if he is involved in games development. Most games these days involve significant teams of writers, designers, graphic designers, developers, marketers, testers, etc. They aren't something one does from out in the sticks whilst working on the side as a cleaner. Obviously...

Absolutely right. Too much Crime TV and Crime websites can make you think that the world you live in is a terrible, dangerous place. We are lucky that Australia is amazingly safe. Take sensible precautions, use common sense, and the chances of being the victim of a serious crime are absolutely...
