    I assume they mean her ongoing struggles and the crisis a few weeks prior where police attended the home, rather than the specific day of her disappearance.

    That doesn’t look like a necklace to me. It looks like some sort of badge on the chain. Maybe the sort of thing attached to uniform or a handbag. The colour doesn’t look like real gold either.

    Maybe hired few days before, could have got train to London and then needed a hire car to get home at an awkward time. Maybe he regularly hires cars for commute given the low mileage of his registered vehicles.
