My theories are that this was either unrelated gang violence (unlikely because that would be an awfully big coincidence given the timing), the efforts of an unknown accomplice who wanted to silence him, or retribution by Abe's friends (not gang-related, I do not believe the victim was involved...
WRAL is reporting that the suspect in Brenes' murder was found dead in rural Randolph County, from multiple gunshot wounds. He had been missing since the day that Brenes' body was found.

I also don't know if the windshield was cracked (I think that was mentioned in an article I saw too). It was not obviously damaged but I can't rule that out, I was in traffic and all I can say with certainty is that I saw a green mini parked by itself in a weird place.
