And yet AC said DM walked in, stared at SB and shook his head.
I mean, I have no sympathy whatsoever for DM, but those are two very different descriptions.
Yes, just to clarify, Justice Goodman is not "upset" or "surprised" by the verdict. Leitch knows there were going to be no VIS, nothing to prepare, so he requested the sentencing today. Goodman is surprised by that, not the verdict.
The original plan would have been to return to their respective jails until the sentencing hearing at a later date.
With no VIS, Leitch wants them read now, as they are automatic. I think Goodman is surprised because he wasn't expecting to deliver the "life with no chance of parole for 25...
I feel for SB right now. Her emotions must be unbearable.
The police line is also there in case one of the Bosma family or friends tries to get at them (remember Victoria Stafford's uncle getting a shot in on Rafferty as he made his way into court?)
I say let them through.
Canadian courts do not broadcast verdicts. Anything TV station that say they are carrying the verdict "live" means they are just doing a live hit outside the court.
You are better off watching AC or SC twitter, as they are right in the courtroom and will tweet as it is read.
I origially thought it would take one, maybe two days, of deliberations before they nailed both of these . That was before Goodman's final charge to the jury.
I am going to say Friday. :)
My gut feeling, and nothing more, is that they are unanimous in the 1DM guilty verdict for DM, but MS is proving to be a tougher thing to determine.
Still think they get them both, however.
Goof is about the worst thing you can call someone in Canadian jails. It basically translates to a child molester, or diddler. Don't think "goofy" is the same, but calling someone a "goof" behind bars, like whistling, pretty much guarantees a beating. It's not something that is easily...
Thanks again to everyone once again for all the tweeting. You have done an amazing job this entire case, keeping us up to date.
On a related note, I remember reading earlier today in this thread about someone getting text updates, thinking there might be a verdict. I can't seem to find The Spec...
I respect everyone’s opinion, as we all should. This is why we have trials. This has been emotional, and emotion tends to bring out conflict, rightly or wrongly.
I can’t say factually that MS was part of the plan all along, nor do I have to. I am not on the jury.
But I think a...
Well said, and just for clarity, when I suggested "what he says goes", I only meant in relative terms when it comes to the client/solicitor relationship. (i.e. a lawyer can advise his client not to take the stand, or to accept a plea bargain, but ultimately it is the client's decision).
