This is how grow-ops work on public lands like Malibu Creek State Park.
1. Plants are planted in a remote area that is unlikely to be spotted from above or by passer by.
2. At harvest time, two guys are dropped off to do the work. During that time, these two guys do everything possible to...
The LASD Homicide Bureau is the group in charge of the Beaudette murder investigation (which included the other shooting incidents). That unit is a dedicated, centralized unit based east of downtown (El Monte or Rosemead or one of those communities). While the fires would have disrupted and...
Gun sentence given to man arrested near site of camper slaying (VC Star)
Investigators also said they would conduct ballistics testing on his rifle, which they seized, to determine whether Rauda could also be tied to the shocking killing of Tristan Beaudette, an Irvine father shot dead in June...
So, still waiting for those ballistics results...
No charges yet for mountain man
If no additional charges are added, Rauda could be free by March. He’s already served around 60 days in Los Angeles County Men’s Central Jail and has been credited time off for good behavior.

The prosecution's DNA presentation was a bit of a shambles.
The Queens Daily Eagle reported daily from the courtroom and got into the details.
[defense attorney Jennifer] Cheung also questioned Razzano on whether DNA analysis conducted by other analysts in the OCME lab could identify on what...
Something else troubling about this prosecution:
Defendants in adjacent courtrooms gave statements to same detective
Two innocent Queens residents, both killed while enjoying life. Four families in grief as two young men face nearly a lifetime behind bars after confessing to murder.
And in...
You raise some good points here.
IMO, overcharging is an issue in this case. When Lewis was first arrested, the only charge was second-degree murder. IMO again, the prosecution would have faced better prospects for conviction if they'd stuck with that and not made the reach for first-degree.
The prosecution failed to make their case for some very serious charges. 'Beyond a reasonable doubt' was not a standard that was met.
First-degree and second-degree murder charges should be taken very seriously by the jury when they consider the evidence presented in court. In this case, it...

Parolee Suspected of Armed Burglaries in Malibu Creek State Park in Court
Still eager to hear about those ballistics tests...
Thank you Elley Mae!
That was the most recent number I'd found, too but I was wondering if it had gone up enough so that it might have been a factor in someone turning someone in.
This may have been stated elsewhere button someone tell me what the final reward money was in this case?
(I know there was $10k originally, then a businessman offered and pulled his offer for $25k. I think the number crept up from that $10k but not how much higher it went.)
Thanks!
The overlook area is still in the evacuation zone although I don't think the actual fire has gone through there the way it did at Malibu Creek State Park.
The Cal-fire map is a useful resource for conditions.
Or more difficult. You might find bones but identifiers like clothing would most likely have burned.
By now, Malibu SAR, the family and their supporters have done a lot of searching in the area around the overlook. While it is very difficult terrain, that also means that a human could only get...
Yesterday there was an update on the page - they were out searching again, posted photos, mentioned a few new leads that didn't pan out.
Not sure how that specific area has been affected by the fires.
Anthony Rauda is due back in court on this Friday, 11/16. Will be interesting to see what transpires.
Malibu Creek State Park took a heavy hit in the fires: Woolsey fire destroys historic ranches, movie sets and open spaces in Santa Monica Mountains
If you were evacuating the fires on Friday...
An update of sorts...
My friend who's trying to get some horses out called Animal Services to beg and plead. They gave her phone number to a sheriff, presumably one from the Lost Hills substation.
The deputy called her and they had an exchange of calls during which the sheriff was trying to...
I was just talking to a friend who was up all night trying to rescue horses. Horse owners near Kanan had to abandon their properties and couldn't get their horses out due to road closures.
Malibu might be beautiful at times but these crises are just too frequent.
Malibu is currently under evacuation orders due to fires.
Nixle alert here.
Fires and evacuations are a fact of life in Malibu. Hope it's not too bad this time.
