I would really hope that something like this couldn't happen again. I find it ridiculous that these kids are just missing and nothing can really be done about it currently. :(

Here in the U.S., constitutionally, we cannot be subject to ex post facto laws. Essentially, crimes cannot be punished retroactively if the offense was not a crime when the offense...
I think one issue is that formaldehyde is used in the embalming process, so that may be a really hard one to find. I would think, though, that some tissues would show scarring or irritation from the exposure if it happened before death.

As far as finding poisons in an embalmed body - there is a lot that science can do now to find traces of poisons in tissues and hair. Just because a body has been embalmed does not mean that it won't...
Yep. I've unfortunately seen a lot of this lately as I'm in a forensic and medicolegal death investigation class. Decomposition can be so different depending on climate.
Putrefaction of a corpse begins pretty quickly. Since she's been missing since November 27, and the climate there is tropical, it's possible the decomposition is advanced enough to have doubts when looking at the body.
