Are the family here able to confirm if it is has been verified that J was at work at the time of Lucas' disappearance? I know that we know he was away for some time before that in New Mexico for work, but, has it been clarified that he was in NM on 2/17? Or just that he was apparently out of state?

How strange that he would be close enough with his family to actually live with his sister, then nothing for 10 years? Was he only just reported as missing now? Did he just stop turning up for work? Or did he resign and then disappear? If he did resign, I would think he walked away on his own...

As a land(lady), I wouldn't by suspicious by the child(ren) not being there. Especially as J wasn't there. I would just assume Lucas was at an after school activity, a friend or relatives house, or out with his Dad. I can't see her being worried about what the LL thought of Lucas not being...
