I was listening to the radio this week and they had a criminologist on who said their hasn’t been a man hunt in the wilderness like this since the 30s. I think he said it was the mad trapper.
I think there are a few factors. One being they had a 20 minute head start. Two I think the thick tree canopy does conceal quite a bit from the infrared cameras. And three the wind and weather in the area made it hard to have drones/helicopters in the air.
Which is good for RCMP - but they aren't just going to run into the dense bush. They need to be wise and tactical to ensure their officers are safe. I'm really hoping for the best outcome.
He said he is delaying them 30 minutes and there is no service in the area so suspects couldn't have access. But I agree I'm sure RCMP are not impressed.
Some work in the community, some are on welfare, and others may work out of town on a shift rotation (7 days on/7 days off), some might be retired. There will be a variety.
They don't have a dump truck - residents bring their trash to the dump. Burning in barrels or fire pits would be whenever they wanted to, depending on the people. I'm not sure about the cabins and camps as they are already remote, but I haven't spent much time on a reserve.
edit: they wouldn't...
There was a MSM article posted earlier that said their radios weren't working and the rcmp used gun shots as a signal to where they were for other officers. I will try and find the link.
