    He could have also done this to punish her, a look what you made me do thing. She may never have been a target, other than to make her be fearful or to feel at fault. I've read he's very comfortable in remote areas and may be hoping to survive off the grid.

    While it may be true that the elements got them, the Mounties knew where they were (approximately) and made escape impossible. In my opinion you have to give a lot of credit to the RCMP and community of Gillam.

    This could be true, but they may not have been looking for just bodies, but evidence that they were in the water, even a gun or something that could sink and become wedged in a rock. I'm stuck on the items found on shore, but nothing in the water, so I keep thinking the items on shore were left...

    I believe there is a dam, but there must be some rationale as to why they dove where they did. They were a specially trained team...I'm assuming part of the training is determining where to search based on the evidence (boat), current, and the river itself.
