That may depend on how solidly he goes by Ben, assuming that's his real first name. I go by both my nickname and my full name pretty interchangeably, with a slight preference that strangers/acquaintances use my full name. I'd never sign something as my nickname, wouldn't even occur to me...
If it's the facility that I'm aware of on Carpenter Fletcher, it's outside access. It's the type with little connected sheds with garage-door style entries.
I wonder if it's not really a question of who did it, just who the Doe is. I haven't actually found much information indicating there's an unknown killer, or even if they are investigating it as a murder. (I doubt it was an accident though...how do you put yourself in a container?)
All in all...
That's fair. It only takes lack of knowledge about one important thing, or a simple mistake, to create a huge problem when hiking alone. Could happen to anyone. There are hikers who get lost on trails they've hiked 100 times because they get turned around in fog or something.
(Not implying MH...
I'd argue that we know he was an inexperienced hiker at the beginning, implying he had never hiked long distance before and perhaps his trip was unplanned and/or poorly researched. By the time he got to Florida he was unavoidably experienced. Unconventional, sure, but he had many many miles...
If the other hikers think you smell, that's...a lot of smell. Most hikers come off the trail pretty frequently to restock, eat real food, and shower. Often this is done while staying the night in a hostel or other hiker housing.
I wonder if he didn't come off the trail nearly as frequently as...
That's fair, I have little experience with Florida in general, let alone hiking it. I think I just automatically went heck-no at the swamps. I'll take the climbs. XD
My main question with MH is why he died *here*, of all the miles he hiked. But, even if we ever find out who he was, I suppose...
I stumbled across a trail diary from a FT hiker the other day that I read. (I can't remember the guy's trail name or I would link it!) He ran across lots of sections on the trail that were flooded, poorly marked, or incredibly un-maintained...and his hike was in the winter/early spring, which is...
It's not in NAMUS yet, I checked when I saw the news this morning. I'm fairly new to this -- how long does it take for remains to show up in the database? I imagine more like months than days...
Bump.
Got on a true crime kick and thinking about this UID again.
If her watch is metal and non-digital, makes me think she either was placed there before 2010 or she was on the older side. I know very few people who wear watches anymore, and those that do wear sports watches or fitness...
I think of this case a lot because I live literally right down the street. I wish we knew approximately when she died... I don't know what years to look for when I search missing people!
Even just some better descriptions of her clothes would help.
