Luminol is a presumptive test for blood, and from memory it can also react to bleach, red wine and fruit juice! That's why a second, confirmatory test is usually carried out to confirm the presence of blood.
From the language used here - these were described as "potential" blood stains - it...
So it’s clear then that the police have been rather cautious in reaching conclusions about what happened here, and haven’t yet described this tragedy as a “murder-suicide”.
That’s quite understandable - it may very well be and certainly looks like a murder-suicide...
I'm not sure the police ever used the word "suicide" - I think the media may have just assumed that from the statements that there were six murdered and one deceased, and that the police weren't looking for further suspects.
I just watched the early press conference from the Police Commissioner...
Yes, I really can't see anything wrong with a bit of healthy skepticism over a story like this, especially considering that the ex-prisoner was presumably paid for it. And let's face it, if her story was "SH was a bit quiet, kept to herself mostly, but chatted occasionally with some of the other...
Yes, as I said it means an allegation was officially made, presumably at the time it happened. The judge stating as fact that she was raped (as opposed to saying SH "reported being raped at 13", for example) indicates to me someone was probably convicted.
ETA: And on the MP case, no judge in...
I was just having a look at the details of the right of rape victims to anonymity, and found this on the CPS website:
So for SH to have a legal right to anonymity, a rape allegation against someone must at least have been made, and for the judge to state as fact that she'd been raped I think...
It would make sense IF there was no intention in the original plan to seriously hurt or kill Becky, but something went wrong and NM killed her without SH's involvement. However if the original plan did involve seriously injuring or killing Becky, whether SH was in the room or not makes no...
I fully agree too, and how refreshing to see a rare intelligent article on this case for a change instead of all the sensationalist headlines. I also think she's right that the sex angle is one key factor which has kept the case in the media (as we can see now, with so many of the headlines...
Hi Tortoise. :)
Thanks for that. I can certainly believe that the jury didn't buy NM's story, but what puzzles me then are the different verdicts for NM and SH. I think there are a few scenarios which might have led to that outcome:
1) The jury thought NM's basic story of kidnapping Becky to...
Is th any way we can be sure of this? I know the press is running with the sexually motivated angle, but I would've thought that would be impossible to know without having heard the jury discussion. Isn't it possible the jury believed NM's motive for kidnapping Becky, but decided he snapped and...
Just when you think it's safe to leave the forum for a few days because of course, there won't be any new developments till at least Friday...
And yet, I think there may be more to it than only a higher burden of proof - it raises some interesting questions as to what the jury believed...
I'd need to see the interviews in their entirety to be able to properly judge that, I think. We've seen such a tiny proportion of them. Even of the bits we have heard, often we just have her responses, and don't know what questions she was asked.
Having said that, I'd convict her of perverting...
I was talking there about the hypothetical scenario that there was a conspiracy to kidnap, or at least that SH was aware of a kidnap plan. In that scenario I can imagine him telling her to take the toddler and go into the garden for a bit while he tackled Becky, and that he'd come and get her...
I basically agree. For me the difficulty is that we still don't really know what happened. I find the prosecution's sex slave theory the least likely scenario of the lot, and unlike NM's version it hasn't been tested or fleshed out. It still has so many unanswered questions: where were they...
Thanks for this, I thought it had been confirmed as "hiding". It'd be good to clarify that either way. Still, the deposit for a house stuff is pretty incriminating on its own.
I think it's because her text messages showed both that she knew the "stuff" was dodgy (she spoke of "hiding" it) and that they were going to be paid a considerable amount for hiding it ("a deposit for the house").
If she'd had the sense to delete the texts, as DD probably did, she'd be in the...
Yeah, I'd agree that there are quite a few possible explanations for the man and woman arguing part. If it happened at all, it being JP and DD seems to fit best, in that JI supposedly told his mate he went in to have a smoke and saw a man and woman arguing, and we know he had a smoke at DD's...
IIRC the police originally searched DD's mum's car as well? Perhaps they weren't sure initially whether that car had been used or JI's car or the work van.
It sounds to me that what probably happened is that KD called DD after getting the call from NM, saying he might need his help moving some...
Maybe it was as simple as JI saying "So where are we taking this stuff? Shall we go to your place?" and KD saying "Yes". As you say, he has no reason to lie about it.
