omg. i remember the southern california murders, we were so afraid! i'm so happy they got him before he died so his victims will have the chance to spit in his face.
Wow. I'm surprised her body could have been in there for two years. That is not a secluded area, and it's not an enormous body of water. As a local, I've followed her case and wondered what happened to her. Rest in peace, Elizabeth...
I was involved in the LA punk scene in the early eighties, and it was the same. We couldn't get through a show without the fire marshals coming in and shutting them down. We had lots of shows in makeshift places because we couldn't find mainstream clubs and venues that wanted to host punk shows...
What a relief. I'm so glad they caught him before he attacked anyone else. Driving to work this morning, I didn't see the number of people sleeping on the street that I normally would. Lots of cops out, driving around the streets downtown. My work friends that take the trolley in from Chula...
this is horrible. the crime this morning happened next to where i work. there has been word around downtown that the city is trying to move the homeless out of the east village because of the all-star game. homelessness is a real problem in san diego, and it doesn't seem like anyone has any...
Not much info to go on, but I thought of April when I saw this:

It is unreal. I started looking up online yearbooks, and it brought back the memories. I actually think she was two grades ahead of me, but she was dating my friend's older brother. She was one of those girls that other girls looked up to...pretty, popular, sweet. It's been almost thirty years...
I went to high school with Michelle. She was in the class ahead of mine. I haven't thought about her in years, but last I had heard, she had married the boy she was with during high school. They were always such a cute couple (btw, he was not the person who murdered her, she must have divorced...
How completely and utterly reprehensible. The people in Kansas that elected these morons should be turning out en masse to start the recall process and replace them with thinking human beings.
I'm sorry, I don't understand how someone who clearly and purposefully (per Wikipedia) abandoned his family is a missing person? Was a police report filed? Did they suspect he later met with foul play? Is there anything else in the media that goes into a search for him?
I'm guessing that in 1971, the technology to date remains wasn't nearly what it is today, plus I believe the desert tends to preserve remains very differently than other environments. Kudos to San Bernardino County Coroner's office for being so persistent! I worked for the San Bernardino County...
Just saw this on the San Bernardino County Coroner's Press Release site:
http://www.sbcounty.gov/sheriff/coroner/pressrelease.asp
Coroner case # 71-37449 UP--On January 26, 1971, skeletal remains were found scattered in the desert near Baker, California. The remains were believed to be those...
I didn't know him very well, but I know that there was a lot of bitterness directed towards the LAPD, because they were giving him a very hard time about giving him compensation. I remember that our complex manager contacted the owner of our building, who told her to stop charging him rent for a...
Thanks for that. It definitely is the same guy, I recognized him from the picture. We all felt so sorry for him at the time. I remember hearing that he had always wanted to be a cop, and he was completely devastated that it was not going to happen. He was fortunate enough to get a second chance...
I used to live in Whittier, and we had a neighbor that lived in our apartment complex who was LAPD and was shot in the eye. From what I remember, he had been with the force such a short time that the LAPD gave him a hard time about granting him disability and he was afraid they were going to...
