I came on here to speculate the very same thing. It's the first thing I thought of when I saw the story on KSL. I feel so, so bad for the Greathouse family. Two children dying under tragic circumstances in a matter of months. How would you even stand it?

Thank you! I was just going to post the very same information. Given this, it's possible that the "two minute" call was only a minute and one second.

Truly I understand how it would seem impossible that SK's body wouldn't have been found by now, especially if you are used to an urban setting. Do you remember the story of Steve Fossett, the adventurer whose plane crashed a few years ago in Nevada? CAP searched and searched and searched for...

Having said that though, it's not always feasible. You can't always get that many people, so you do what you can with what you DO have.

I have been on searches in terrain like this, and yes, you have to be a lot closer than 15-20 feet apart to ensure that you don't miss anything. It's amazing how many nooks and crannies there are in an area like that that is even relatively open. Light and shadow and even the time of day play...

That is my second most-logical-sounding theory. It could have been completely an accidental death.

No. The root of the word "liable" is not "lie." According to Mr. Webster himself, the root of the word is: Etymology: Middle English lyable, from Anglo-French *liable, from lier to bind, from Latin ligare — more at ligature. When I read the post to which you are referring, I was pretty...

This suicide theory that we're discussing right now is the first one I had, and though I've entertained many of the other scenarios that have been thrown out there, it's the one I keep coming back to. It just makes the most sense in my mind. I think Steven felt like he'd been given the...

Yes, that was a hard one. And I had met the guy that we were searching for a couple of times. We also had some like the one you mention, and those put you on cloud nine for days. Oh how I will be crossing my fingers, thinking good thoughts and praying that Steven will be found one way or...

Yes! Not to mention that wind would blow sand over any remains, and scavengers would scatter them. They could be washed down gullies, in crevices... I was on a search once with 100+ people and trained search dogs looking for remains less than two weeks old. We spent three full days in...

I was on Search and Rescue for several years, and that is exactly why you wait for a weekend, especially when there is a lot of desolate, undeveloped land to be searched. We went on a couple of suspected suicides and waited until we could gather a sufficient number of searchers, trained and...

With all due respect, these statements that I have bolded are stated as fact, yet are sheer speculation. Just because his friends and family are not on here tossing around theories and expressing concern absolutely doesn't mean that they are not doing it in ways of which we are not aware...

It's possible that he WASN'T depressed. I hope he wasn't. I know there are times when I have been really down and struggling, and I put on a happy face for people whom I came in contact with, and I even felt better when I was with them. Then when I was by myself, I was really depressed again...

Yes he did. It's possible that he fell and hit his head, or was knocked unconscious for a time and was unable to use his phone. When he did, maybe he was semi-conscious and was only able to push the speed dial for voice mail. Or maybe he dropped his phone unknowingly and when it dropped, it...

I agree. There was a lot to make him question his self worth--the job issue, and with that the lack of money, his dating situation, being in a place where it seems that he may have had superficial friends, but no close buddies. Couple that with the Christmas season and the accompanying dark...

I have no idea whether Steven was/is gay or not. I just have a hard time thinking that if he is and decided to live an openly gay lifestyle that he'd completely disappear from his family members' lives--not even a note, phone call, email, nothing. I'm LDS and personally know several people who...

Goodness! No shortage of caps and interesting punctuation, but I think what he's trying to say is that the family and friends need to consider that Steven was involved with something unsavory or illegal--drugs, prostitution, theft etc. I am a plainspoken person by nature, so it tends to...

You know, going back to that theory that was tossed around a couple of weeks ago--the one where Steven got lost and ended up on Evening Lights by mistake? Well, I found this map http://awarebuyers.com/sun-city-anthem/sun-city-anthem-maps.html of SCA which lists names of the streets...

Not necessarily. Deanna could be her nickname, or perhaps Steven had a friend with the same name and just mistyped. I just don't get the impression that Steven is helpless and inept to that extent.
