Does anybody know the exact dates of when Curl was first interviewed by LE and when he fled to Mexico? Also, when he came back to Louisiana and taken into custody?
Right now the public defender is staring down five counts of murder (with two of those worthy of the death penalty) on a suspect that fled the country following an initial interview with LE. I'm not sure if she's met with him yet or not, but she either needs his full cooperation or a pysch eval...
Public defender is requesting a psych eval. Probably standard ops in the given situation, but it appears that LE has had its ducks in order in this one. That will probably help lead the public defense to claim insanity...
It's amazing at how answering that first question leads you down through a different investigative path.
I agree with your opinions. At least all of them are well within reason and have been played out in crimes similar to this.
I agree, there never seemed to be a real concern with the LE with regards to the public's concern of "a killer on the loose." It's as if they had eyes on that person or knew of the whereabouts from the get go. Both press conferences were more about protecting evidence to get a conviction than...
Did Antinette know her attacker?
Are the remains found Antinette's or somebody else or both?
Who is this POI?
How did this person become a POI?
How did the POI get to Louisiana?
It leads you to believe that this may answer one of the very first questions in the case- did she know her attacker? Both press conferences by LE showed more of a concern with prosecuting the case. Feithen also said it was isolated and opportunistic, and never mentioned it being random.
As far away from the crime scene as they could get, no less.
They have to play it close. Without an autopsy, the DA is playing catch up. I agree, this raises so many questions. What was this person's relation to Dekalb, NIU, the Park, etc. How did that person get to Louisiana?
There are...
Good points...although I do not see the perp leaving the body to come back to dispose of it after dark. Why not get rid of the rest of her personal items while waiting?...She didn't show for her 2pm Art class. Was that because she didn't want to, or couldn't? The latter suggests a daylight...
In this case, where the evidence is already in such a fragile state, I see the kid gloves coming on to help the DA efforts. Without an autopsy, the DA is already in a corner. In my experience, the initial press conferences are usually a way for LE to come out and practically beg for a lead. I...
You have to know the location and town to realize that a fire in that area is, even if noticed, not considered something out of the ordinary. Dekalb is a railroad town. It splits through the heart of the old downtown district just northeast of the park. East of Dekalb you have the western...
It's interesting in watching the two faces of LE in this case. On one hand it has a press conference with DA to explain why information is being withheld. That lends one to think that it's about to jump on something, but with so much evidence (remains) destroyed by fire, it needs to make...
There is a gas station at the corner of Pleasant and 38 (north of the Park) that is very close to the tracks and the Park. However, accelerants come in many forms. There is a lot of trash and refuse along the tracks in the brush, including old tires and timber planks soaked with creosote. In...
Can we please get past the "...my cousin's dog's brother's neighbor said it heard barking on the radio that a baby bunny was tied to one of the blades of the giant windmills..." rumors?
There are no official reports of anything happening in Malta, Illinois. Granted, the railroad tracks do...
If you walk that path, especially along the train tracks, there are numerous signs of past fires. Also, these areas are quite far from any house and usually border the train tracks that run along the northern edge of the Park. It is a busy rail with trains coming from both directions at...
Thanks for the link! I was thinking maybe the perp(s) used the rubber tire method to help with acceleration and masking. It leads me to think of someone not very bright if those are her remains, but experienced enough to know about destroying the body.
You might be mixing up a local homeless person (and Dekalb has plenty of sheltered people that appear homeless) with a transient passing through via rail. Life on the rails presents a whole new defition of rough. Railroad transients live in a much different, often brutal, world.
