A hardcore drug problem could explain some of the stupid stuff he did. A lot of his actions might make sense to a person who was completely out of their mind.
At this point I am assuming that he didn't talk. I originally thought that he must have and that that is how they knew where to look for her. But if he talked, then how come they are still talking about the death penalty and all of that? If he talked you would think the bare minimum deal he...
The indictment says: "On February 2, 2012, KEYES intentionally killed Samantha Koenig and then boarded a commercial airline flight from Anchorage, Alaska, to Houston, Texas."
My guess is that the reason the kidnapping is included is that it can be an aggravator distinguishing it from...
I don't think ransom was his plan from the beginning.
My guess is that he was incredibly stupid and thought that if he abducted her maybe he could get a little more cash by making her get debit cards, etc. Clearly that is not worth murdering someone over but maybe he was really desperate or...
Wow, I am shocked that he walked her across Tudor to the Home Depot parking lot. Tudor is a very busy street. Even in the middle of winter, even in the middle of a snowstorm, there would have been plenty of cars on that road. It's shocking that he could pull that off and truly sad that Samantha...
Correct me if I'm wrong, but I believe that only the tribe and the federal government has jurisdiction over crimes committed on reservation. I don't believe the state has any jurisdiction. And it's well known that the feds don't prosecute much on reservations.
What I am curious about is how they got on IK's trail.
Did he give himself away in the video? Maybe you could see his face and they showed it to the other employees and somebody said "I know that guy". Or perhaps his truck is in the video.
Or were they just watching that debit card (that...
I agree that he told them where she was.
The only other possibility is that someone saw his truck there. They did ask anyone who had seen the truck to contact the FBI, which indicates that they knew he had transferred her body in the truck. Maybe somebody called and said "I think I saw that...
I wonder if we're going to find out that IK isn't really who he claimed to be. It just seems hard to believe that a guy who had nothing but a DUI in his past would suddenly jump to this.
That's all true but I'm thinking that collecting a number of agents (I think I read there were 20 there or something like that?) in one public place can be a bit of a liability. If it were just a few then I'm not sure there is an issue but if you basically have every FBI agent in Anchorage there...
This caught my eye in a recent news story:

Maybe some of the agents involved are undercover, or wish to keep a low profile at the very least. That might explain doing this operation under the cover of night.
Snowbunny - Just to reply to a post of yours in the prior thread, I don't think it matters that KA owns the property. If IK was the only who had access to the shed there (it probably had a lock on it, right?) then she could not consent to its search.
Here's an analogy for you: say you have a...
It would probably be a good idea to get a warrant, because even if KA consented to the search that might not be enough. IK could later say that the shed was totally his so KA really had no right to consent to its search. I'm not sure if that would work but it's a risk the cops would probably...
I've thought about possibilities like this, BUT if IK really wasn't involved in the abduction don't you think he would have told the cops everything he knew as soon as he was apprehended? He would not want to risk getting a kidnapping/murder charge pinned on him.
The other interesting thing is that nobody from IKs past appears willing to talk about him. The press has apparently made numerous attempts to contact the people he worked for with the Makah Tribe in Neah Bay and nobody will talk to them. Same goes for IK's infantry commander at Ford Hood...
Agreed. Given the placement of the shed I think it's highly unlikely that he kept her captive there. So that really doesn't leave much they could be looking for except blood and such. :(
Not two weeks though. Not typically anyway. This guy led a bit of a different lifestyle so maybe he would go visit family for a couple of weeks. But most of us wouldn't, and definitely not in Alaska in February. If you are going to spend money and take vacation time (or lose work time in his...
