You are right, my bad, I looked at March. 5:50 am for May. It was low tide, but the marsh wouldn't drain all the water off then, it would effect levels, but because of uneven sediment deposits/terrain, there would be puddles/ponds, etc. Ditches were dug and the marsh was drained to aid in the...
If you go to the link I provided you can look at a whole year of tides for the area for 2010. Also sunrise/sunset. Sunrise the morning Shannon went missing looks to be 6:27 am I believe.
heres a bit more of the chart to show that the tides are routinely above 1 foot at high tide in this area....
2010-05-02 5:02 AM EDT 0.02 feet Low Tide
2010-05-02 5:50 AM EDT Sunrise

Even if the area was at low tide when she went into the marsh, it would seem reasonable that a high tide that evening of over three feet would create substantial puddles and muck, at least to me.
This tide chart

shows the tides as being over 3 feet at high tide the evening of May 1 2010

Can you tell me why the government information I sent you says this is a saltwater marsh? I'm just curious why you think everyone is wrong but you? Obviously everyone is lying then?
Are you an oak beach resident...just curious as I see you are in boston...was wondering about your...
You only need to watch numerous crime shows to see parents who can't believe their children did something, from meeting someone, to marrying someone, to taking drugs, to many many things. Shannon wasn't thinking rationally and was scared, and from reports (not yet substantiated I think from...
I believe sunrise was closer to 6 am that day. There are some lights of course where the houses/residents, but once she entered the marsh there are no lights. I know how dawn can have some light but even so it was just sunrise, not a lot of light and I still believe that it didn't help the...

a photo of the police on an amphibious vehicle searching the marsh..it is not completely impenetrable except I believe where Shannon would have tried to get to the parkway from the marsh area. That would have...
Just remember thought that the night she went missing, May 1, the tides were at their highest of the month. Also keep in mind she was a slender small woman, and had already been running and scared for some time before entering the marshes. I would think this would contribute to extreme fatigue...
First of all mashes do not have to "meet" with the bay to flood or because of rain....here's some information on how marshes "work" so to speak.
http://www.nwrc.usgs.gov/factshts/fs91_97.pdf
Marshes are under some water most of the time and grow and change when the sea level rises, as in...
Please read the numerous news reports regarding the area where she was found.......here's just one...http://www.newsday.com/news/breaking/exam-of-remains-may-reveal-cause-of-death-1.3388774
"which police have said would have been under two to three feet of water at the time"
And just to put this to bed...the NYS DESIGNATED FRESHWATER WETLANDS are areas that are protected by the wetlands law, it does not designate whether the areas are fresh or salt or brackish, only that they are protected areas under the law.
From wikipedia...re: wetlands...
A wetland is a land area that is saturated with water, either permanently or seasonally, such that it takes on characteristics that distinguish it as a distinct ecosystem.[2] The primary factor that distinguishes wetlands is the characteristic vegetation that is...
I looked again and see what you see, still I think the freshwater is north of the parkway where we go clamming. Either way fresh or salt...the tides effect the area. That is easy enough to find out by the news reports.
You are not correct. In fact even using the map you provided you are off on the location of oak beach, which if you zoom in and use your layers you can see quite clearly that the area of oak beach is white (not wetlands), but areas of gilgo beach are green and to the east as well. Oak...
Hi Reannan and thank you. The area Shannon was found in is a salt marsh and they are particularly dangerous to walk in, especially when a tide is coming in and I believe on the night of may 1 the tide was particularly high. Marshes are complex areas full of deep mud, clay, grasses and water...
Oak Beach is not Hell town. As a former long time summer resident I can tell you its a lovely community with part time and full time residents who are very close and enjoy the peace and beauty of the local landscape. We never even locked our doors. As far as animals, foxes, skunks...
