I wonder if many of the age determination is due to bone details, not necessarily skin, or other tissue. <my personal opinion>
But for a better understanding, citing some articles I’ve delved into in the past:
Vitality and wound-age estimation in forensic pathology: review and future...
We do have to keep in mind too, this is simply a photograph of skin - the body of which had, upon photographs, already entered the beginning stages of decomposition - the tattoo being wonky or variegated could easily be due to lividity.
May I ask your reasoning for the doubt? We don’t have much to go on yet, so I personally think it’s sixes, as far as race goes.
I agree. I was thinking that too - that the topmost part (life preserver/sun) looked a little older/faded almost as if this face was a cover-up. I do know some tattoo...
I can't imagine they would have missed a penny when processing the scene. Unless someone dropped the ball and wasn't thorough. But, if that's the case, then what else was left behind that could have potential to identify the killer?
"The Utah Cold Case Coalition announced Tuesday that a male DNA sample has been recovered from a penny that was collected at the site where Elizabeth Salgado’s body was found in 2018."

Couldn't agree more with these statements. I don't think a mother is capable of being out-of-commission for that long. At least not physically - they'd need assistance with meals/school/playing referee for arguments between siblings/etc. Even if she was dealing with a severe medical issue such...
I've wondered about:
-a trinket/small item
-very distinct shoe print from a unique/different shoe
-a piece of clothing
-food he was eating/had in hand that dropped [sunflower seeds, pistachio shells, etc]
-vape cartridge/un-smoked cigarette/very specific type that is 'different & unique'
I would imagine if it were DNA evidence, they could/would have caught him well before now. I've wondered about:

I believe it’s the empty, paper evidence bags that are enclosed in the ziplock. I doubt they’d pack a carpet remnant, especially one with potential DNA or fibers in a ziplock that can’t seal properly. (IMO it doesn’t look ‘zipped’)

I do agree, and I find it rather interesting they don't mention the jacket. Where do you think it went? Or why wasn't it logged in with the other belongings?
Many crime scene workers have mentioned that when "discovering the deceased that their face might have taken on what looks to be a grimace". That stage of rigor would potentially stay intact up to 7 days following death, so IMO, the "leaping" or "frozen" aspect of his condition doesn't sound...
I agree with you - looks intriguing. I also was wondering about an electricians calculation of some sort. ??? Will be right back to add info.

Something with binary code? But possibly electrical circuits as well. I’m not the most educated in either option. ☹️
