Dominick Calhoun was 4 years old when he died. he was beaten to death by his mother's boyfriend, 24 year old Brandon Hayes. Brandon Hayes now faces 9 felony counts, including torture and first degree murder.

On Thursday morning, Dominick was eating breakfast on the sofa when he wet himself. Brandon responded by punching the boy in the head, and then kicking him in the head repeatedly. The abuse continued into Friday, when Brandon turned on the boy's mother, as well. She was badly beaten, and although she did not call for help, she did try to protect her son, lying on top of him at one point. She has not been charged for her son's death.

On Sunday, Dominick and his mother, both beaten severely were found by the mother's sister...when she visited to buy drugs. At that point, the mother's parents were contacted, who in turn finally called police. Dominick was brain dead when he arrived at Hurley Medical Center. He likely lost consciousness sometime Saturday, which did not stop Brandon from continuing to beat him. He was initially placed on life support and later on Sunday, he was declared dead. According to the Sheriff, Brandon felt that Dominick deserved to die and he was tired of raising his girlfriends son.

Brandon Hayes is held without bail, and Dominick's mother has been released after her arrest, on what I assume were drug charges.
There was an older child in the home, who was placed in protective custody.

Seems like Dominick never had a chance. Mother and her family aren't getting a whole lot of slack from me, as his mother was selling drugs and her sister didn't call LE when she discovered that her sister and nephew had been beaten. This last part is JMO.

It appears that it was the paternal grandfather of Dominick that contacted LE.

This article includes an interview with the mother, which does put me a little more towards wanting to pity her. Hayes has prior records for fleeing the police and possession of analogues (drugs, kind of).
Dominick died at 11:02 a.m. Monday, according to this article, not Sunday, as it says in the first article I posted.

Brandon's father blames his behavior on drugs, as usual, this is completely out of character...blah, blah, blah.

The police had never been to the apartment before, but there were reports after the fact that there had been sounds of fighting in the past, but no one got involved or called LE. Dominick was beaten to death within four blocks of the Argentine Police Station.

In Linden Thursday, a clothing and toy drive for Dominick's older brother was in progress.

Authorities say the boy is still in protective custody.

Ashley Hoff says she started the Facebook page that currently has more than 9,600 fans.

Hoff says she organized the toy drive event hoping the items collected will help bring Dominick's brother home to family.

I don't understand. They want to help bring Dominick's brother home to the family? The mother who sells drugs and who's boyfriend tortured her son to death? Or the sister who didn't bother to call police when she found the boy beaten when she went to the home to buy drugs? Keep that child away from these people.

I was trying to come up with a way to address that part that didn't involve the word "moronic". Thank you. There is no way that the mother should be raising anyone, but it might be someone from the father's family that might be capable of raising a child.

I just read this on CNN and was floored (here we go again)! This scum of the earth killed a child because he wet his pants.

I'm curious if the system failed yet another child.

The town police chief said Baker and her son had been brought to the attention of Genesee County Department of Child Services on several occasions. The agency did not respond to CNN's requests for comment Thursday.

It was not immediately clear whether Baker's involvement with the child services agency predated her relationship with Hayes. The police chief said he believed Baker and Hayes had been together for about six months.

Rest in peace Dominick.

what the heck??????? 'they were found by her sister when she came to buy drugs'.

oh thats just awesome.

what a family!

poor kid :(

let me see if I understand this right - he beat this kid to death over a few days, a few blocks from the police station, mother never managed to catch the dude asleep or showering or using the bathroom or ANYTHING to get this kid out of the apartment?

I am struggling to have sympathy although the mom was not responsible and was beaten herself in trying to help her boy but....not even once did this dude stop his whooping to p!ss? police station 4 blocks away? what, across a river and she had no boat or what?

Yeah, I'm with you. :furious:

One article said she tried to shield him by lying on top of him but was beat herself in the process. What about getting a 2x4 or a hammer and attacking him from behind?!? I know that battered women suffer from thinking they are powerless, but I have no sympathy. Even animals will die to protect their young. My heart breaks for that poor little boy...

:rose: Fly with the angels, little Dominick, and never know pain & suffering again :rose:

my issue is it said she thru herself over him to protect him......3 days after the beatings started. better late then never i guess.

The story is that on Friday, mother didn't see him, Hayes wouldn't let her take Dominick out of the bedroom. On Saturday, she noticed burns and bruises, and wanted to take him to the hospital. That's when he started whaling on both of them.

Salt heavily, as my reference is "local grapevine."

I can't tell U how sick I M .......... poor, poor baby!

Poor Baby. Rip little guy. no one will ever hurt you again.

I'm at a loss for words to reply without being banned.

looks like momma managed to get out o fthe house amidst the abuse and still did nothing. from link

Court documents filed by the Department of Human Services state the 25-year-old mother was picked up by her parents for a doctor’s appointment on the day after the abuse of her son, Dominick Calhoun, began, according to a Sunday report in the Flint Journal.

The woman, who was not identified in the story but earlier was identified by police as Corrine Baker, has not been charged in connection to her son’s death. However, Genesee County authorities said the investigation is ongoing.

D@mn then all!! I just want to make sure I have the headcount correct here, moms boyfriend, mother, aunt, and both maternal grandparents were all in the house at one time or another while this crime was taking place. How many grown adults does it take to save a child? Apparently, a few more than were involved in this case. I'm beyond disgusted! I'm enraged!!!!! I know that if my mother EVER thought I was hurting one of my children, she would personally haul my butt to authorities and rescue my children. I have no doubt any one of my sisters would do the same. God forbid if she thought my husband was hurting our children, there would be no safe place for him to hide. I understand that child abuse can be a generational cyclical problem, but how many horrible monsters can there possibly be in one family? I dont care how many drugs were involved, or that 'mom' layed down to try to save this child...I don't buy it, not for a minute!
-Personal experience story warning.... When my son was 6 weeks old, I left him in his father's (my husbands)care, while I went to do the shopping. I came home about an hour later, and my son had two small bruises on his face. I immediately threw hubs out of the house, no questions asked, took the baby to the pediatrician to be checked out. I did not care if hubs was arrested, in trouble, had a momentary lapse of judgement, whatever. He denied vehemently ever laying a hand on our child, sobbing and confused. Later, we found out that our son has a blood clotting missing factor issue, which causes him to bruise incredibly easy, and can be very dangerous without treatment. I learned a lot about bruises that day, and thankfully my husband was not at fault at all for this injury> It turns out his car seat straps even though they had the little fluffy things on them, put enough pressure on his little cheeks to bruise him. We switched carseats, and went to many doctors and specialists and labs finding answers. Long story short, it was not until a doctor explained to me that there was no way that those type of bruises could have been caused by a person or abuse, that I allowed my husband back into the home near our children. HUbs is far from a violent person btw, he has never even raised his voice to me, and I can be bossy and hard to manage lol. I would have never suspected him of hurting or hitting anyone, much less his own newborn, but there was no way I was taking any kind of chance with my children.
Thats what mothers do! They DO NOT leave their children with the abuser to go to the doctor themselves!

well auntie only went to get a score.

wonderful family all of em huh.

I'm not saying this as any kind of defense for what this has done, I hope he's dealt with in the most severe way possible so he can never hurt another child! When I looked at his jail history there is a photo of him and his neck looks so large it makes me wonder if he takes steroids, his head and neck are the same width.

I also found it very telling how he said he was tired of raising his girlfriends son. If that's the case, then move your *advertiser censored* out of there, you have choices and you don't have to raise him!!
In my perfect world no mother would pick a to have full access to their children, is that ever going to happen?
Stories like this are just te tip of the iceburg, how many other children are out there right now being beaten because they dare be a child and have accidents.
