HUFFMAN, Texas -- A teacher was killed and a firefighter was injured in a shooting at a home in Huffman, KPRC Local 2 reported.

Harris County sheriff's deputies said dozens of people were gathered for a birthday party when gunfire broke out in the 300 block of Oak Knoll Drive at about 12:30 a.m. Sunday.

"It was not a brawl," witness Virginia Lloyd said. "It was a birthday party for a 3-year-old."

Deputies said Raul Rodriguez, 44, who lives two homes down from the party, called the constable's office to complain about loud music coming from the home.

Investigators said the situation wasn't resolved to Rodriguez's satisfaction, so he took a gun, flashlight and video camera to the home.

Rodriguez got into an argument with the birthday child's father, Kelly Danaher, 36, officials said. It escalated and Rodriguez shot three people, investigators said.

Detectives said Danaher, who was a teacher and coach at Sorters Mill Elementary School in the New Caney Independent School District, suffered fatal wounds. Two others, Ricky Johnson, 43, and Marshall Stetson, 33, were seriously wounded.

Johnson, a Houston Fire Department senior captain, tried to subdue Rodriguez. According to his friends and family, Johnson was promoted to that position two weeks ago.

Other people restrained Rodriguez at the scene and he was arrested. He has been charged with murder.

Instead of going next door with a gun, why not phone & say "It's late, turn down the music"? Or even simpler, call 911 with your complaint & let them handle it...... what's the matter with people????

He murders a teacher. Tries to wipe out a high ranking firefighter, and another guy. Over music?

What a da*n shame.

Prayers for this poor teachers family. Prayers for the wounded men as well.

Now, let's see if this nutter has a record? What's the bet on that?

A jury has convicted a Texas man for murdering his neighbor during a confrontation over loud music two years ago, rejecting a claim that he was within his rights to fatally shoot the man under Texas' version of a "stand-your-ground" law.

i'm not familiar with this case and will definitely go read up on it, but the first question that came to mind when I read your post was 'how was this man even able to try to claim "stand-your-ground law"?

I am sorry for all parties involved. But it is no longer a 3 year old's b-day party at 12:30 am. The shooter should have stayed in his own home. Alcohol or drugs had to be present somewhere in this mess. I hope the shooter is gets re-convicted.
