This thread is for those who have positively been ruled out as George Brody.

Please list name, year of birth and reason for rule out.

thank you

Tolbert Percy Dalton, the baseball player, aka Jack, birth year 1885.

Ruled out based on ht. He is listed at 5'10.5" and GB was a very short man. IIRC 5'5" or so. Another site lists Tolbert Percy Dolton at 5'8", but with a birth year of 1885 he is too old to be our GB. Tolbert was 63 when he went missing in 1948. Which means he would have had to be 83 or so when meeting GW in the late 60's which is unlikely.

George Brody- Born Feb 14, 1901 Texas --Ruled out because of SSDI info (death June 1986)

Michael Brody-Born Aug 15, 1894 -Tunkhannock, PA -

Ruled out because he resided in PA between 1955-57 (we know GB was in San Fran by this time). Michael died in PA in 1971.

Andrew Carnegie Whitfield- Born 1910 NY/PA?

Ruled out because of height (ACW was 5'8") and because GB would not leave money behind. (Andrew was from the wealthy Carnegie family)

GB did leave behind appx 17,000 in a safe deposit box according to California public records for unclaimed funds.

I can't recall why this one wasruled out, can anyone help with the reason? thanks!

George N Brody- Born 1890 in Ohio

--Ruled out because we have records of him living in PA and then CA with wife Margaret V.

It appears that it was not definitively ruled out, except for the height difference. So should he not be here?

Let's leave it for now. Perhaps we may need to make this a 'possible matches' for GB thread..... rather than going back and forth between the two threads. We can always seperate out the positively ruled out posts into an additional thread if necessary. Let's see how it goes.

thanks Jules for all your hard work!

ETA: Or we can do the seperate thread for each possible match which has not been ruled out... if necessary and lock them once we are certain they are ruled out.

again, let's see how it goes first......

Hi Cubby,

I really like the idea of a separate thread for each possible GB match. Each thread could be named with the persons name, date and place of birth (if known). The first post in the thread could be all info know about that person and the last post in the thread could be a summery of why they have been ruled out and then lock it. The thread can always be re-opened if new info comes to light (which could be discussed "behind the scenes" before the thread is re-opened).

There have been so many possible GB's or possible matches for GB (under different names) that it has become very confusing and this might save us revisiting possible GB's that have been ruled out and give us the opportunity to follow up on the ones that haven't been ruled out.

I personally think that there has been possible GB's ruled out because of age and to be perfectly honest, we don't know how old GB was. IIRC, GB claimed to be born in 1921. He may have looked old for his age or he could have been much older than he claimed to be.

Great idea Cubby.

The ones we know are ruled out for sure we can add here in this thread with the summary.

Those that need further investigation to confirm why we ruled out, or if we got stumped can have their own individual thread. Just start one.... I don't have to be the one to start a thread, anyone can....... A new thread for a possible match to GB could be started with something like "Possible GB match -Persons Name, DOB, needs further investigation.

Thanks guys!

Melvin Uphoff ruled out.

Though ruled out due to the late date (1965) when he went missing, someone had suggested in the first thread Melvin Uphoff as a potential George Brody. In reading through the threads yesterday, I followed up on that and discovered he had been located last year:

"The Nebraska State Patrol picked up the cold case a few years ago and had the couple listed on its website as "missing." Now their pictures are gone. The case is closed. The couple today tells the state patrol, they want to be left alone and want privacy."

The SF GB married to a Margaret. This GB was born in about 1890?

Bump and am going to ask the mod's to sticky this thread for easier reference.
